-Eva- Back home
After waiting for what feels like a lifetime a black Audi pulls up outside of the house I scramble around my room on all fours looking for my bag and what I will need for the next couple of weeks, I grab my duffle bag along with some clothes from my closet and crawl towards my desk making a mental list of what I need my laptop, my books, my pencil case, my phone, and all the charges as well. Taking the laptop bag from under my desk I grab my laptop from the desk and start putting all my belongings into the relevant bags making sure to grab some underwear, I do not want to make that mistake again. The embarrassment of going to my lesson after staying out with Ruenn in a hotel because we were too lazy to call a cab after a party in the same hotel only to remember that I had to attend lectures the following day I shiver at the memory.
I hear a knock on the door I grab my bags and run towards it feeling a lot safer knowing that it will be the driver of the Audi, I drop my bags by the front room door as I pass Ruenn who has fallen asleep on her books again, I tear a page from her notebook and the pen from its resting place and write her a quick message informing her that I’m not going to be around for a couple of days but she can reach me on the phone and if she can stay with her parents for a few days she should do so, I know that whatever it is that is out there is after me otherwise they would have already done something when I was out earlier. I then grab her phone which is on the table next to the piles of books and set an alarm for an hour later to wake her up she needs some sleep otherwise she’ll end up failing and having to repeat a year.
Walking back towards my bag I check to make sure I have everything I need and head for the front door, where I can see a big figure dressed in black standing under the security light. I unlock the multiple locks that are there grab my keys that are in the bowl next to the door and twist the handle pulling the big wooden door towards me it gives with a groan and I sigh with relief when I see my friend and mentor Gregg standing there with his big brotherly look on his face “Geeze, Eva you don’t like letting people sleep these days do you?” he teases as I look at him. I throw my duffle bag at him and he smirks at me because he knows that he has put me at ease. “ha, very funny we all know that you wouldn’t be sleeping anyway ‘Greggory’. You would be too busy trying to get it on with your latest conquest.” I reply putting emphasis on his full name knowing full well he hates it, I notice the slight wince at his name and give him a smirk back “touché, young one you know me so well.” He mocks me while rubbing his chest acting like the name drop hurt more than it did. We continue the banter until we reach the car and he then grabs my laptop bag from my hands and places both my duffle and laptop into the boot of the car.
We drive down the dark street that is only lit with the occasional street lamp, I feel a bit on edge like something is watching me still, I look to my right and that is when I see it a big brown wolf with matted fur and drool dripping from its mouth it is not like a normal wolf it looks to be the same size as a car if not a little bigger It eyes are focused on me the entire time I swear I can feel it bore holes into my skin as it stares at me it reaches the edge of the trees which is when it huffs and lifts its muzzle to the sky that is when I hear it the blood-curdling howl that will haunt my dreams for the rest of my life it freezes my blood making me shiver the howl is like no other wolf I’ve heard it almost sounds human-like a scream of pent-up anger. I keep glancing behind me to make sure that it hasn’t followed me.
We drive the rest of the way in silence with me occasionally looking over my shoulder it feels as if those eyes are still on me even though they are nowhere to be seen Gregg keeps looking over at me like he has seen a ghost I am sure he saw and heard the same thing, a shiver takes over my body making my teeth chatter one thing is for certain I will not feel safe in that house anymore not until something is done to protect me and my friend from whatever that... that beast was.
Finally, we pull up to the old house where Bridget is leaning against the doorframe, it is as if she knew when I would arrive. In all fairness she probably did know when I would arrive, she is the head priestess after all. Opening the door of the car I clamber out of my seat as if I couldn’t get out of it fast enough and run towards her she opens arms and embraces I feel safe once I am within her grasp, It is then that I realize that I am truly home when I am near her this is it this is where I feel safe after all if it wasn’t for Bridget I wouldn’t be who I am now, let alone where I am now.
