Emmy had reluctantly agreed to join Owen and Anna, Owen's girlfriend, to watch the football match between Eastwood High and Kingston High. It was a chilly Friday night, and the stadium was buzzing with excitement as the teams took the field. Emmy couldn't help but notice Nate, who was the captain of the football team, stealing glances at her from across the field. She tried to ignore the fluttery feeling in her stomach and focused on the game. As the match progressed, Emmy found herself getting more and more engrossed in the game. She cheered loudly for Nate and his team, impressed by their skills and teamwork. However, she also couldn't shake off the jealousy she felt when she noticed Lexy, a cheerleader and Nate's ex, eyeing Nate and giving Emmy nasty looks. After the match, Owen, Anna, and Emmy decided to head back to their cars. As they were walking through the hallway, Lexy approached Emmy, a malicious smile on her face. "Well, well, well, look who we have here," Lexy said, her tone dripping with condescension. "The new girl who's caught Nate's attention. What are you even doing here? You don't belong." Emmy, normally mild-mannered and reserved, felt a surge of anger rising within her. She clenched her fists, feeling her heart race and anger surging through her. Before she could respond, Nate appeared, stepping between Lexy and Emmy. "Back off, Lexy," Nate said firmly, his voice commanding. "Leave Emmy alone." Lexy looked taken aback, not expecting Nate to intervene. She huffed and walked away, shooting Emmy one last glare before disappearing into the crowd. Emmy felt a mix of relief and gratitude towards Nate. She didn't say anything, but the way she looked at him spoke volumes. Nate simply nodded, acknowledging her silently. Later that evening, Emmy found herself in a heated argument with Aiden. She had used his motorbike without his permission to run an errand earlier in the day, and Aiden was furious with her for taking his belongings without asking. "I can't believe you, Emmy!" Aiden yelled, his frustration evident. "You always think you can do whatever you want without consequences!" Emmy's own anger flared up, and she retorted, "You're so annoying, Aiden! I hate you!" Their argument escalated, and harsh words were exchanged before they both stormed off in opposite directions, seething with anger and hurt. Emmy's relationship with her father, who was a successful lawyer, was strained. He had high expectations for Aiden, his son, and often overlooked Emmy because she wasn't a boy. Emmy felt neglected and overlooked, but she kept her feelings buried, not wanting to rock the boat further. After the match, the football team decided to celebrate their victory with a late-night gathering. Emmy and Owen were working on a class project at Owen's place. Emmy looked at Owen, her eyes filled with envy. "I like Nate and he likes me but we can't even go out together. I wish things could be easier, you know? Like you and Anna." Owen raised an eyebrow, looking curious. "Me and Anna?" Emmy nodded again. "Yeah, you guys are perfect for each other. You're both nerdy, you have common interests, and you just... fit together." She looked down, feeling a pang of envy. "I wish I had something like that." Owen smiled gently. "Emmy, don't do that. Don't compare yourself to others. Emmy looked up at Owen, appreciating his words. "I guess you're right," she said softly. "I shouldn't compare myself to others. I just... I wish I had something like that." Owen nodded, understanding. "Relax. You will. Just give it time. And remember, I'm here for you too." Emmy smiled gratefully, feeling a sense of comfort in Owen's words. She knew she had a supportive friend in him, and that meant a lot to her. At the same time, Emmy couldn't help but feel a pang of hurt about her dad. "And it's not just about Nate and Aiden," she continued, her voice wavering. "It's also about my dad. He's always so focused on Aiden because he's a boy, and he hardly pays any attention to me. It just hurts, you know?" Owen's expression turned sympathetic. "I know. It's not fair that he treats you differently because you're a girl." Owen kept saying recomforting words when suddenly, Emmy felt a searing pain in her head, followed by a strange sensation coursing through her body. Emmy quickly excused herself and ran into the woods, feeling overwhelmed. She had a sudden flash of Aiden lying lifeless on the ground, and she screamed in anguish. As she did, the ground shook, and a powerful wind whipped around her. Emmy's powers, still unknown to her and uncontrolled, manifested in a burst of energy. The ground shook, the wind whipped around her, and a scream tore through the air. She stumbled and ran blindly, not knowing where she was going, until she reached the site of the accident. Aiden's motorbike lay crumpled, and his body was motionless. Emmy's heart broke as she rushed to his side, checking for signs of life. She felt her world spinning, and she passed out. Emmy's eyes rolled back, and she passed out, overwhelmed by the intensity of her powers and the trauma of losing Aiden. The next thing Emmy knew, she was in the hospital, surrounded by concerned faces. Owen, Nate, and her parents were there.
