I rushed home to find Kestrel engaged in an epic battle…with a box of cereal. “I can never get these stupid bags open,” she grumbled, then added, “Hey, Uncle Lawrence. Where"ve you been?” I held up the bag with the chocolate croissant I"d picked up for her. “Met a colleague for breakfast. I"m trying to figure out what"s going on at the CPDC, and I was hoping they could give me some more info on Grand-Pied.” “Yeah, about that…” The bag finally tore, and sugary flakes of doom scattered all over the kitchen, or that"s how it seemed. “Whoops. Is the thing in the paper bag for me?” “Yes, but first I"ll help you clean up. I"m surprised Sir Raleigh isn"t in here with you.” Kestrel fetched the broom from the pantry. “He left sometime last night. I haven"t seen him. Isn"t he with you?” “No.”
