            Novika continued to take her to the memory lane that night. Josephine brought herself to her knees, weeping as she did. She couldn’t be an instrument to Mariana’s impending doom—to be a sacrificial lamb as the late empress had put upon a curse on the poor baby.            “Is there any other way…to prevent that from happening?
