CHAPTER4

Aaron Olivia glared at him. “How am I supposed to kn—” she gasped surprisingly as if figuring what he was trying to hint at, “Don't tell me you want me to marry this man” she said confusingly. “What? No, that's not what I meant!” Nicholas defended. “Then what the hell are you trying to insinuate?” She questioned him, her brows pinched together. He turned back to me. “Well since you are in desperate need of a woman to play the role of a wife. What if we arrange a marriage and make Marietta your wife and in return we get fifty million dollars each?” he stated, staring at me as if weighing my worth. He seemed to recognize me because he was suddenly acting nice. Not everyone recognises me as the son of Jonathan Blakeley. I have tried my best to keep my social life away from the media and it has helped me in so many ways. Since I constantly tour the world, living the dream lifestyle, the media barely knew I existed. “What?!” Myself and Olivia exclaimed in unison. “Are you c***y?!” Olivia yelled again, a trace of disappointment evident on her face. “My sister can't marry this man” Nicholas raised a finger, excusing himself as he snatched Olivia’s hand, dragging her to a private spot a few steps away from me. I watch them share a few hushed whispers to each other. Olivia sparing me a few glances as Nicholas try to talk to her. My chest tightened as I glanced down at my wrist watch briefly. They were taking forever. After what felt like eternity, they walked back to meet me, Olivia’s face brighter than before as a small smile tugged her lips. “Don't tell me you are going to allow this” I raised but her lips remained on a straight line as she gave me a dismissive shrug in return. “What?… It is the best solution to your problem” Nicholas explained, seeing how I frowned at him. “And since she would not be able to remember the past years of her life or so, it is an opportunity for us to finally be together” he added as he turned his gaze to look at Olivia, his hand curling its way to her waist. “You need a bride and we need the money, it's a win-win” Olivia finally emitted, winking devilishly at me. “This is absurd. Is that the best idea you can come up with?” I asked glaring at him, and without waiting for a response I continued, “You know the woman we are talking about is lying helplessly back there, right?” I pointed back at the entrance of the room. Their proposal made me so angry that the urge to smack both their faces swirled up in my chest but I restrained myself. “It's Marietta” Olivia corrected. “What?” “Her name… it's Marietta” “You know what… I'm leaving. I can't be part of this” I stated frustratingly. “At least have my number in case you change your mind” Nicholas told me. “Yes you might need it” Olivia supported. I gave them a stern look before grabbing the paper and scurried my way out of the hospital. On my drive to Maxwell, I couldn't help but think about the stupid proposal Nicholas has offered. The money was not the problem. I could double the amount he asked for if I wanted to, but I don't think taking advantage of the vulnerability and defenselessness of Marietta is the best way to handle my own problem. I stared at the number for a moment, contemplating on whether or not to toss it outside the window. And after what seems like forever, I shoved it into my pants and dialed a number as I continued my drive to Maxwell’s apartment, hoping and praying he already got this friend of his as he said. Fortunately, the red traffic light came on and my grandfather decided to finally pick up the phone. “I heard what you did, Mr. Blakeley. I see you must be trying so hard to ruin my life” “Oh please… You and I know that all this is for your own good. There are certain things that needs to be changed in that company and I'm trusting you to do it, don't you see” “Is this your way of trying to make me believe you are on my side because I'm not buying it” He laughed before speaking again. “You know I have a friend whose daughter might be interested in having something serious. What does he mean by that? Is he planning to orchestrate an arranged relationship for me now? “I'm going to have to pretend I didn't just hear you say that” “You know that the company will remain closed until you find a partner, right?” Grandfather reminded me. I increased the AC level of the car as it suddenly became hot in here. “I have a partner,” I lied, “And very soon you are going to meet her” I assured him, my voice booming with confidence. “Well I guess I would have to see for myself when I get back home then” he challenged and I hung up the call. I knew my grandfather wasn't going to make things easy for me but I am confident that my plans would work out just fine. One thing he should know is that I always get what I want, and that I had adopted from him. It's in the Blakeleys’ blood. ♠︎♠︎♠︎ “Please tell me she's on her way” I pleaded with Maxwell, pressing for an assurance. “I don't know, man. She had told me she would be here” “Then why isn't she here yet?!” “Well I don't know, that is what I am trying to find out” he stated, raising his phone to his ear for the third time. I stood there, patiently waiting for a feedback… “S**t!” he exclaimed after some minutes and my eyes widened in anticipation, “She is not picking up” he announced. “Aggh!” I groan in frustration, digging my hands into my hair and ruffling it, “What are we going to do now?” I asked Maxwell who looked seemingly exhausted from the whole drama. I pace back and forth, trying to think of a fresh idea. I turned my gaze to look at Maxwell. He was quietly looking at the ground, rubbing his chin thoughtfully, with his other hand tucked across his chest. “Come on, dude… Any ideas yet?” I voiced as my brows furrowed tightly. I knew I needed all the help I could get if I wanted to convince my grandfather of being responsible and capable. Otherwise I’ll lose everything, and that I'm not ready for. If my grandfather wants a bride, then that is what I would give to him. “Mary, the company's secretary. I think she would be willing to help” Maxwell suggested. I glared at him. “That's a terrible idea, Max” I retorted, “My grandfather knows her and besides I want him to believe this is an actual marriage and not just some planned conspiracy.” Maxwell sighed briefly.“What about Vanessa?” “Which Vanessa? That Vanessa?” I asked, when I learned who he was talking about, “She flew back to Australia, remember?” I clarified him. Vanessa and I only hooked up once. She was getting too attached so I ended anything she thought we had together. God, she was so fixated on me like a gum stuck to a table and I hated that. Last time I heard from her, she was getting married. “Well those are the only reasonable people I could think of.” “This is ridiculous!” I barked, my voice choking with frustration. I plopped back down on the couch close to me, resting my elbows on my thighs and my hands propping my head. I was here thinking Maxwell had everything under control and his plans would do the trick in convincing my grandfather but now I see this was all a waste of time. “You have two options,” Maxwell started, “either you accept your grandfather's proposal and arrange a date with Victoria or you find someone crazy enough to help you.” I exhaled deeply as his words resounded in my head “Someone crazy enough to help me...” I thought to myself as I heaved a sigh. Suddenly, a light bulb lit up on my head and it hit me just then that I might have a way out of this. Though Nicholas’s idea might be stupid and selfish but as crazy and bad as it sounds, it is the only option I have left.
