Chapter 32 – Family Lunch I didn’t Expect 01

It rang a few times but straight to voice mails. I thought, maybe, I got them wrong and directly went to bed. I looked at the time and it says “4 am”. I still can’t sleep so I turned to video games and watched new movies that I want to watch that some friends recommended while I was in Taipei. My cellphone suddenly rang while I’m in near the end of the movie. It was an unknown number, I picked it up and I thought that it’s probably Yannie. When I picked it up, it was another person. I didn’t know who it was so I asked. “Who is this?”

I was nervous and somewhat angry hearing his voice again. “What do you want?” I asked him, ready to hang up the phone. “I’m in Thailand, right now. Can I see you for a second?” I scoffed really hard that it made me laugh. “You really think I would agree to see you?” he just stayed silent for a while and shocked me that I stand up on my bed. “I’m with your mom” he said. I couldn’t process what he said and that I can’t really believe mom will go out with him in the public. Mom in the public, seriously? I stopped thinking all this stuff when he said “Do you want to talk to her?”. I said “yes” and there I waited “Hello, Ian. ” I am relief that it is my mom but I still can’t believe she’s with him. “What’s happening mom?! you’re with him? I’ve been waiting for you to come out as my mom but you never did. Now, you’re ready?!” I questioned a lot and my voice is getting higher and higher. It frustrates me to think these useless thoughts but I know that she may have a very good reason for staying with him.

I can hear her walking “I met him here by accident. I have a seminar for the new trainees of students for their practicum. I wasn’t here for fun, Ian. You know, I don’t like you’re tone with me so keep it down and we are in a private place near the conference building. It’s his friend’s restaurant, okay?” she explained smoothly. I apologized for raising my voice on her and she asked me if we could dine in together. I scoffed again but not that loud, just thinking it’s absurd “I have a flight this afternoon, maybe, I’ll see you in Manila? I have a shoot before my departure, so, I’m busy” I replied.

She agreed to meet me in Manila but she said if I could spare just an hour. Unfortunately, my father is going to stay in Thailand for two days for a campaign video. “That’s good then, he won’t be there in Manila” I sarcastically said. I was force by my mom to agree to meet them and have an early lunch at this restaurant. Apparently, He already booked it out beforehand. I told mom, “I’ll see if I can fit it in my schedule, bye mom and stay away from him for now”. she laughed at my last statement which wasn’t funny. I hang up the phone and sat on the rear side of the bed thinking what will happen later this morning.

I was drinking an espresso when Eli sat next to me and showed me an article about my dad. It says “Getaway vacation of Allen Ward, speculation, with his secret girlfriend” I can’t help but slammed the laptop so hard that everyone in the plane looked at me. Eli told me “calm down”. how can I calm down when all I can think is my mom’s safety. “That asshole just keep on messing with my life” I blurted. Thankfully, no one heard it except Eli. “Just call your mom after we land, okay? We’re going to touch down soon. Why are you so agitated? Did something happened that I didn’t know about?” she asked. I told her “Nothing important”. she sat next to the others and I was left thinking about what happened two hours ago.

[Flashback]

Two hours ago,

Mom texted me the address and I, quickly, went there after the shoot. I can’t believe I fooled Eli on escaping my lunch with the team. I told her “I’ll be in the bathroom, my stomach hurts” I pretended that my stomach is in pain and she asked me if I need something or do we need to go to the hospital. I told her “I’ll be fine in an hour. Just enjoy the lunch, okay?” I escaped from then. The second thing she didn’t realized was next to the restaurant that we dined in was the private part of the restaurant for important meetings and romantic date dinners. That places is usually the VVIP section, so, secret meeting happens there all the time. I picked the place after mom texted me the address of the meet up. “Sorry, I’m late mom. Gotta run from the media” she hugged me tight and I did hug her for about 10 minutes. We broke the hug because someone laugh or was it a happiness, kind of, laugh. By the way, I didn’t see him a while ago because I was too focused on my mom. This is the first time, I’m seeing her for a very long time. I pushed my seat next to my mom to stay close to her. Everyone will think I’m too clingy for a man but who cares. I want to treasure this moment with mom though I hate the sight in front of me.

“Hi…………..dad” I greeted him quite calmer than I pictured out. Mom called me after the text that I shouldn’t be too hard on him since this is a first time meet up after the said split up with mom. The concert was more of a sightseeing than a meet up. He gave me his very nice and clean smile. I smirk thinking that I got my perfect smile from him. “Aren’t you gonna say anything?” I asked in annoying way but he didn’t budge. He gave me a smile again and said “Can I ask for a favor, son?” my eyebrows literally meet up asking me for a favor is a one step for him to get close to me and that is not going to happen, not again!. I firmly said “NO” and mom seems to be nervous about this but just sat down and let the smoke go away. Unfortunately, it just burned a whole neighborhood for me when he stood up and stand right next to me.
