30 - Kathleen I picked up a flaky plastic creature from the moist sand. In my mind, I kept replaying my recent encounter in my head, trying to find a crack in the mayor’s armor. Two gulls were hopping and flapping around a discarded French fries bag, harking to get my attention back to the here and now. Now, now, now! I paused, the flaky plastic toy in hand. The one-legged gull chased its rival away, the latter departing with a fat fry in his beak. The bird then proceeded to pick the bag clean. Clever fellow. The afternoon crowd was milling around, some getting on the old man’s rock. Two young people were unfolding green and white chairs at the foot of the sloping rock.
