We sat at his table, sipping the (very) strong coffee he had poured in two thimble-sized china cups with slim golden handles. He had stacked the strewn magazines in a pile. A mix of medical and social magazines, topped by one last year issue of Psychology Today, and a thick door stopper titled Medicine Today. The coffee maker was deceptively efficient, and the small volume of brown syrup flowed like a fiery river through my throat, lighting up everything on its path. The few drops of milk did nothing to change my impression. I couldn’t remember the last time I had drunk such a concentration of caffeine. It was more potent than an espresso coffee. “Oof!
