I didn’t know how long I was out, but when I came to, it felt like waking in the wrong version of the world—still, silent, and desolate, like a no-man’s land. For a moment, I couldn’t place where I was. The silence was discomforting, as if sound itself had vanished on a journey with no return. A dull ache throbbed above my right eyebrow.
