(Angela’s POV) After Kate dropped the folder and quietly stepped away, the only sound that remained was the soft rustle of paper beneath my delicate fingertips. I had to drag my mind back into focus, force it to concentrate on what now stared me squarely in the face. Inside my office, the Hisense air conditioner stirred to life, and the air turned colder, eager to chase out any trace of warmth that dared linger. I flipped through the final report Kate had dropped off moments ago—pages filled with forecasts, acquisition prospects, and new partner analysis data.
