The next day Selena was completely overtired. She came back home late. Her head was still spinning with the encounter she had with William. She was upset and extremely disappointed with herself that she didn’t reject him. The worst was she was still crying and couldn’t stop. His smell was swirling around her and made her emotional and nauseous. Then she finally noticed she still had his shirt on and aggressively pulled it off her and tossed it in the corner of her room. She had a shower and the running water swallowed her tears. Afterwards she was a bit calmer, too exhausted to cry any longer. When she entered the room, her face met his shirt in the corner. She sighed and walked towards it. As she stared at the white shirt, she remembered how badly she wanted to touch him. Even though the conversation ended with her storming off she had to admit she was glad she saw him. To be close to him even if it was for a short amount of time, even though she didn’t know him, fulfilled her and she kind of longed for him. She honestly wanted to see him happy and the things she said to him hurt her now. The white shirt was staring back at her spreading William’s scent and Selena picked it up and inhaled the most wonderful smell. This calmed her. She laid down in her bed, the shirt tightly in her arms and she fell asleep.
She slept restlessly and therefore woke up really tired, she couldn’t pay attention during class nor when she had lunch with Olivia and her friends. They talked about Olivia’s birthday festivities the next day and all the things that still had to be prepared. But Selena’s thoughts spun around William and their conversation. Would he really reject her? The thought of it hurt her. On the other hand, if he didn’t do it she would have to, and the thought of hurting him hurt her even more. But she had no other choice, especially after hearing his opinion about rogues. Her eyes met Olivia’s who was already looking at her as if she knew something was up. Olivia’s expression was somewhat sad.
“Sounds like it will be a great party.” Selena forced a smile.
“Do you know what to wear already?” Alexandra looked at Selena with curiosity.
“I’m not so sure yet. I-“
“Don’t worry about it. I have the perfect dress for you!” Selena was suddenly cut off by Olivia.
“Are you sure. I have clothes, you know.”
“No please. Let me do this. See it as your birthday gift for me, I love dressing others.” Olivia had a calm smile on her face.
“Alright.” Selena was actually grateful, she really didn’t want to bother with these things at the moment. She smiled at Olivia and it saddened her to know that she would lose her too after the rejection. A rejection isn’t only hurtful to the rejected mate, it is an insult to the whole pack. Especially if the rejected mate in question is the future Alpha of the pack.
Selena hoped to talk to Elara that evening, but she had a double shift at the diner, so she was left alone at home with William’s shirt which she couldn’t stop smelling. When she tried to find some sleep, she tried to put away all possible distractions, most of all the shirt. Dreading the coming two days she barely fell asleep. She tossed and turned around in her bed. At the time she finally found some sleep it was so late, she couldn’t be bothered with school and slept till noon. She woke up with messages from Olivia panicking if she was alright. Selena kept staring at her phone sitting on the edge of her bed. The idea of just cancelling and staying in bed was more and more tempting, minute by minute. But she knew she couldn’t avoid the inevitable. She would hurt people, herself and lose the mate the Moon Goddess gave her. A breeze came in through the window and Williams scent shot up her nose like cocaine and her whole body was in a rush. It longed for William, his presence, his touch, his everything. Her wolf howled and pushed her to see him again. Selena looked at the shirt, then the window and finally to her phone. She replied to Olivia, apologized, and told her she was looking forward to the weekend. Olivia would pick her up in two hours, that meant she didn’t have much time to get packed and ready.

Selena heard a honk, took a final look in the mirror and liked what she saw. Her light pink summer dress sent a ‘pretty in pink’ vibe, her hair was loose and shone brightly in the sun. After leaving a note for Elara which said, ‘Will solve the problem. X Seli’, she grabbed her bag and ran outside. Olivia waited for her outside the car. She looked at her through her sunglasses and had a big grin on her face. “Hey sleeping beauty. Who are you trying to seduce in this dress?” She pulled her glasses down her nose and looked up to Selena and winked. “You look pretty.” Selena blushed a bit and was glad that because of all the sunlight it didn’t show. If Olivia knew what kind of fantasies Selena had with her brother William, she wouldn’t make jokes like that anymore. They got in the car and took off.
“So, we’ll have a little pyjama party tonight with Alex and Anna. This will be so much fun, and we’ll have enough time to get ready for the party tomorrow. What was up with you this morning? I was really worried.”
“Nothing. Just didn’t sleep well.” They kept on talking about school and soon they arrived at the pack house, the beautiful hacienda. Right at that moment a black Mercedes drove up the driveway and parked a bit further. The door opened and Selena recognized the familiar golden-brown hair shining in the sun. She had to hold her breath as William turned around and saw the little smirk on his lips. He wore dark sunglasses and the sleeves of his shirt were rolled up. He looked way too sexy and she couldn’t stand it, it made her restless. But what left her even more speechless was the fact that he drove a European car while she had to settle for her old American pick-up. She couldn’t deny the irony. A high-pitched scream brought her back from her thoughts and drooling, and she saw Olivia ran over and jumped into a big hug that almost made William trip. “You are here already. I thought you would only arrive tomorrow for the party.” William hugged her tight and Selena couldn’t help but feel a bit jealous, she felt like she had to be in his arms. “Easy, easy. Of course, I would show up to congratulate you at midnight.” Selena felt the piercing look he had on her underneath his dark shades. “Also, I have pack matters to discuss with dad. Come on ladies. Let’s go inside.” Everyone joined in a chatter and turned to go inside the house. Olivia and William had a conversation in Spanish and Selena sighed in relief, William wasn’t one of those Americans who only spoke one language. William had his arm around his little sister’s shoulder, Selena was behind them as they entered, and she begged to get away from him. He just made her feel insecure and nervous. Olivia’s mother appeared speaking Spanish with a cheerful loud voice, she greeted everyone, hugged William and finally switched into English with a cute little accent. “Dios mio! Come on girls, you have to agree with me. William looks like a stick, he is getting thinner and thinner at this college. He doesn’t get enough to eat.” Everyone chuckled and she continued. “Again, welcome chicas. It’s so nice of you to be here. And you must be Selena. I heard so much about you already, the European girl. Olivia, you didn’t tell me she is so pretty.” She reached Selena and gave her a gentle hug. Selena stiffened for a second but quickly eased and returned the hug. This lady was just too lovely not to like. “Mama, you are making her shy.” Olivia tried to intervene laughing. “What? I am right. She is beautiful. William, tell her!” Selena’s eyes meet William’s gaze, it made her knees week. “Yes Mama, she really is pretty.” Blood shot up Selena’s head. She had to turn quickly and hoped nobody noticed her tomatoed coloured cheeks and ears. It was a rush of fire, her blood boiling like lava. When she dared to look up again, she saw William kept his golden eyes on her, while busy talking to his sister and mother in Spanish. Somebody must have said something funny because he started to laugh and it was the most wonderful smile Selena ever witnessed. Tingles erupted from her belly. Slowly she started to doubt she was able to survive just one night under the same roof he was in.
Well s**t, should have stayed at home, thought Selena.
She felt a hand on her shoulders that snapped her out of her thoughts, and tore her eyes from William. Anna smiled at her. “Let’s go. We will stay at the pool.” These words were a relief, she just wanted to get away from William and refocus.
Get a grip. Selena had a mission and none would stop her. It was a desperate attempt of a pep talk.
William watched the girls leave, sighed and had to admit to himself coming earlier to Olivia’s birthday party was a mistake. He wouldn’t be able to keep his mind on pack matters while he was constantly smelling Selena’s scent. Even seeing her back now, especially in this dress, made him weak. How can a girl just look so perfect? He remembered the night he caught a glimpse of her n***d body. A goddess stood in front of him, nothing less. This perfect pale skin shining in the moonlight, her silk-like long bright hair and her piercing blue eyes, her round and perky breasts, she was perfection and she was his mate. He never met a young woman as confident and proud as she was. It was incredibly sexy. But it broke his heart she didn’t want him, and her words still angered him. He didn’t know what to do. Air left his lungs and his head dropped. He had to go and see his dad now, work didn’t wait.
