CHAPTER 5 Run

“Mate.” He aspirated.  Selena kept staring at him. He was tall and sinewy. One could see he was strong. He had a narrow face, perfectly sculptured, like a roman statue. His golden-brown hair was combed back sideways, his lips just screamed to be kissed and his eyes were golden. These eyes. They kept staring at her as he whispered again “Mate.” And then they started to turn black. Selena was nervous, she could see the desire in his eyes. She wanted to go to this man and feel his perfect skin, his touch. She wanted to smell him, soak it in, she wanted everything of him. Her wolf went crazy in her desire to this man. Moreover, she could also feel his wolf feeling the same. He glared at her face, her fine features, small nose, big ice-blue eyes, with long lashes and long light blond hair, shining like silk. The sunlight made her shine even more, highlighting her velvety skin. Her appearance was alluring and the only word constantly circling in his heat was ‘mate’. She was his, he knew nothing else. Her scent gave him a high, he couldn’t think straight. She smelled of roses, juicy peaches and of summer rain. She was only wearing a bikini and he admired her perfect curves with l**t. Flashes of things he wanted to do to her this very moment if they were alone. He could hardly contain himself, but then hesitantly took a step closer to her. She opened her mouth slightly as if she wanted to say something. She then suddenly snapped out of the trance she was in. Selena shut her eyes together and shook her head, she had to shake it off. When she opened her eyes again, she had a look of shock in her face. “I – I have to go.” She mumbled and rushed back outside. She had to go. Now. Selena started to panic. She desperately started to look for her things. When she found them, she only bothered to put on her shirt. She looked back towards the kitchen. She had to go back in there to get out of this house but she couldn’t do that. This can’t be happening, she thought. Then Olivia appeared. “Are you alright?” “Yes. No. I suddenly don’t feel so well anymore. Can you please take me home?” Selena said in anguish. Of course. But maybe you could lie down here a bit first?” “No” Selena almost shouted. “I have to go.” “Alright.” They went back through the kitchen. He was gone but Selena could still smell him. This beautiful alluring scent. Selena had to get out, before she couldn’t control herself anymore. They drove in silence. Selena didn’t care much that Olivia would now find out where she lived. She just wanted to hide. She couldn’t get his image out of her mind. His perfect face. The way he looked at her, his golden eyes, which seemed to look deep into her soul. Her wolf whimpered, she wanted to go back. Selena pointed the last directions and soon they reached the small run-down house. “I hope you’ll get better soon.” Olivia looked at her with sad eyes. “I’m really sorry. I didn’t mean to be rude.” “Selena. What are you?” Olivia narrowed her eyes a bit, as if she wanted to see better and looked at Selena. “I’m not your concern.” The words came out of Selena’s mouth harsher than she intended. She opened the door and walked straight towards the house, entered, and closed the door behind her. She leaned her back against it and slid down till she ended up sitting on the floor. Why did the moon goddess have to do this? She looked up. Only now she heard the car drive away and she noticed tears were running down her face. She couldn’t believe it. She couldn’t believe what had happened. She didn’t want to. Why would the moon goddess mate her now? At this point of her life? She could have needed the help of a mate before she lost everything. But not now. Not anymore. Not this stranger. Suddenly it struck her. Things were only about to get worse now. *** When Elara came home from work she found the house in darkness. Straight away she became nervous, she expected Selena to be home preparing dinner or doing something else. A thousand thoughts ran through her mind. Did something happen to her? Did rouges get her? Or a pack? She started to panic. Hastily she turned the lights on. Nothing. Everything looked untouched. Her eyes turned black. “Seli?” Nothing. “Selena!” She hurried across the apartment to the other end where Selena’s room was. She opened the door shaking. The room was dark only the light from the corridor gleamed in. And there she was. Selena cowered in her bed, almost invisible. That’s how small she made herself. Her pillows and blanket nearly swallowed her. “What’s wrong, Selena?” Elara only heard a silent sobbing. She walked over to her and sat on her bed. She placed a hand on Selena’s shoulder and turned her around so she could face her. The poor girl looked horrible of all the crying. “Tell me what happened.” “I think I ruined it all. It’s all going down. We have to move again.” “Now stop talking nonsense and tell me what happened!” “I – I think I found my mate.” And with these words Selena looked into Elara’s eyes with fear and strain. Elara stared at her as if she didn’t quite understand. “What?!” Elara kept staring. “You mean here? In the middle of nowhere in the US of A?” “Yes.” Elara kept staring again and suddenly she started to smile, that turned to a giggle and finally a laugh. “Common. Get up. I’m making something to eat and you tell me what happened.” She left the room still laughing. Selena managed to get up, went to the bathroom and washed her face. The face that stared back at her in the mirror, looked tired with swollen eyes. Only when she went the kitchen and sat at the table smelling the pasta her sister was making, did she realise how hungry she actually was. Elara opened a cupboard, took out a bottle and a small glass, poured a clear liquid into the glass, turned around and placed it in front of Selena. “Drink! You look like you need it.” “You know it is still illegal for me to drink in this country.” “I don’t care. You are allowed to buy guns in this country. Where is the logic in that. Now drink.” Selena took the glass and smelled vodka. She took a big gulp and felt the liquid burn as it went down into her stomach. It gave her a warm feeling. Still she had to think of him again and how much she just wanted to taste his lips. Tears were coming back again as remembered his smell again. “Now eat.” Elara put two plates in front of them, dished up and they ate in silence. Selena felt calmer after her last bit. She took a last big gulp of the vodka and told Elara everything. “As you can see now, we have a problem.” Was Selina’s closing line. And then there was silence of a minute or two. “Not only will they not leave us alone now. They will start asking questions. I never heard of a mating bond between a werewolf and human.” “There is a bigger problem.” Elara leaned back in her chair and looked Selena straight in the eyes. “What is it?” “The spell will vanish. The witch said it will slowly fate the more others doubt and are suspicious. And once this happens, everyone can smell that we are rouges.” Another minute of silence. “The packs, other rouges, and the ones who are looking for us.” Selena concluded. “What do we do now?” “We can’t leave. He will start looking for you and this will put us even more in the spotlight.” “I have to reject him.”
