Folani ' s POV
The final lesson of the day had come around, and everyone was already halfway out of their seats before the teacher even appeared.
Nobody had the energy for another lesson.
When Mr.Ade finally walked in, he didn't bother even opening his textbook. He simply placed the file in his hand on the desk and looked around the room.
" I have an announcement from the school."
That was enough to gain everyone's attention.
He opened the file.
" There will be an inter class activity."
A few students smiled.
Someone whispered, " Finally, something interesting."
Mr. Ade continued.
" Both classes will be involved."
The smile disappeared from the student's face.
A chair scraped loudly against the floor.
" What? "
Mr.Ade looked up.
" I said both classes."
The room suddenly became uncomfortable.
Not chaotic.
Not loud.
Just.. uncomfortable.
Then a voice from the back broke the silence.
" Sir, are you sure about that? "
A few students turned to look at him.
Mr.Ade frowned.
" Why wouldn't I be sure? "
Then someone muttered, " After two year? "
I looked up.
Two years?
Mr.Ade's eyes immediately moved towards the student who had spoken.
The boy immediately looked away.
" No reason, sir."
I looked around the class.
Something wasn't right.
A moment ago, everyone had been complaining of how tired they were.
Now, nobody seemed to care about going home.
Dami had gone completely quiet.
Viola wasn't looking at anyone.
She was staring at the desk in front of her like she had suddenly forgotten there was a lesson going on.
I glanced towards the door.
A couple of students from the other class were walking past.
One of them looked inside.
The moment he saw our classroom his expression changed.
He nudged his friend, said something under his breath, and then they both kept walking.
I looked back at Mr. Ade.
He was already giving us a warning look.
" Whatever happened between the classes before now stays in the past. This activity is supposed to bring everyone together, not create another problem."
Whatever happened?
I sat back in my chair.
Okay.
Now I was definitely interested.
I had only been in this school for a while.
Apparently, there was something I had missed.
And judging by everyone face it wasn't something small.
I glanced towards the door.
A couple of student's from the other class were walking past.
One of them looked inside.
The moment he saw our classroom, his expression changed.
He nudged his friend, and said something from under his breath and they both kept walking.
I looked back at Mr.Ade.
He was already giving us a warning look.
" Whatever happened between the classes before now stays in the past. This activity is supposed to bring everyone together not create another problem."
Whatever happened?
I sat back on my chair.
Okay.
Now I was definitely interested.
I had only been in this school for a short while.
Apparently there was something I had missed.
And by judging by everyone's face it wasn't small.
Mr.Ade picked up his file.
" Your class representatives will receive the details. That's all. "
And just like that,he walked out.
The moment the door closed behind him, the room exploded with whispers.
" Why would they even do this? "
" After everything? "
" Just forget it."
" You're the one who should forget it."
I stayed there, listening.
After everything?
Most people were already heading out when I noticed Viola still sitting on her desk.
She was quietly arranging her books, completely ignoring the noise around her.
" Viola."
She didn't look up.
I stood and tried again.
" Viola."
Nothing.
I frowned.
Maybe she hadn't heard me.
I picked up my bag and walked towards her.
That was when I noticed she wasn't actually focused on her books.
Her eyes were fixed somewhere else.
I followed her gaze.
Dami and Ashley were standing a few metres away, near the doorway.
Seeing her with Dami.
Especially when the two of them were talking in voices quiet enough to make me suspicious.
I stepped closer.
" What's going on? "
" Shh. "
She frowned.
We stood a little distance away.
Ashley was saying something to Dami.
" I just want to know what happened to him."
Dami shook his head.
"Ashley, I told you. I don't know."
" You must've heard something."
" I've heard stories, That's different."
She sighed.
" My brother lost everything because of that fight."
" He was on scholarship, Dami.Straight A's . He had everything planned out."
" I know. "
" No.You don't."
Her voice softened.
" Then suddenly he lost the Scholarship Everything he'd worked for..."
She stopped.
Dami looked uncomfortable.
" I wish I could help."
" Then tell me what you know."
" I wasn't there. "
" I know."
" Then why are you asking me. "
" Because everyone else keeps telling me to forget it."
She looked away.
" And. I can't."
I glanced at her.
" What's she talking about."
She whispered. " Her brother."
" What happened to him? "
" He was one of the students expelled two year ago."
My eyebrows lifted.
" Because of the feud? "
She nodded.
" What feud? "
She stared at me.
" You really don't know."
I shook his head.
" I'm new here, remember. "
She almost laughed.
" Right."
Viola's POV
Folani hadn't been around when any of it happened.
He had only heard the scattered comments people made.
Meanwhile, Ashley was still talking to Dami.
" I don't want revenge, " she said. " I just want to know why.
Dami looked at her.
" Sometimes knowing why doesn't change what happened."
" Maybe not."
She picked up her bag.
" But at least I'd stop wondering."
She walked away.
Folani watched her disappeared down the corridor.
Then he turned to me.
" Okay. "
I already knew that was coming.
" What? "
" You're going to tell me."
I smiled.
" Tell you what? "
" About what happened."
folani was quiet for a moment.
" And do you know."
I shook my head.
" Not everything."
" Then what do you know."
I took a breath.
" Enough to know the fight wasn't where the story began."
He looked at me.
" Then where did it began."
I hesitated.
There was reason I never told anyone the whole story.
Because once you know about Amara,
the feud stopped looking like a stupid fight between two classes.
It became something else entirely.
Something uglier.
Something people spent two years trying to forget.
I finally looked at Folani.
" It started with a girl named Amara. "
He didn't interrupt.
So I began.
