Chapter Three The Regent stood hands akimbo behind the haematologist who was bent, right eye deep into his microscope.Beads of perspiration formed on his forehead although the room was well ventilated. The Regent seemed restless as she paced around and still came back to stand behind the doctor. "Did you find anything that might interest me?"She asked with her right arm crossed under her chest and her left hand under her jaw.She was peering over to the specimen. But the doctor said nothing instead he raised his hand signalling she should stop talking. The Regent thought if talking would disrupt the experiment, then let his will be done. The syringe was dropped carelessly on a tray nearby with a drop of blood on it. "This is nothing like what I have seen in all my years working for your father."The doctor said standing up from the lab bench. He took out his glasses, wiped it clean with his lab coat and steadied it back to his eyes. "Can you try to be more elaborate doc?"The Regent asked not understanding the whole thing. "He is not just a wolf.He is something else."He paused as he bit his lower lip.The Regent was following his every movement with her eyes too curious to know what he has to say next. "This is the hybrid Rose."He said calling her by her name. "He's got the traits of the nightwalker in his gene."The doctor said almost in a whisper. "A vampire and a wolf in one being?"The Regent asked wide eyed in fear. "I don't know how that is possible but yes there he is.An immortal."Said the doctor. "I suggest you do whatever you've got to do fast before he realizes what he is.You can't hold him for long."The doctor said packing his box. I tried breaking free from the chains but it seemed almost impossible. The guard knew what he really did when fastening the chain.I wondered if he was trying to restrian Fenrir. I'm just a boy.A twelve year old boy I was told.Did they see the video?Did they see the brute strength I displayed at school?Karl heard the vehicle approaching very quick. He need to think really fast.He knew they were making for him.The click of silver. The sound came back coursing through his drums. "Don't panic...Don't you dare."Someone said to me.It seemed more like I said that to I.The voice came again. "Allow me to take control of the situation."Now it was clear am not the one talking to myself.I didn't budge and it came again. "You should quit being stubborn and allow me to show you how it is being done."The voice said.Father Francis got me prepared for this.He already thought me a few things and one of them is about my wolf trying to communicate with me. "What do you want?"I thought but to my surprise,he replied. "Allow me to handle the situation."The voice said.More like he was pleasing .My mind was racing fast.I couldn't think of anything.I knew what will happen if I let my wolf take control. I'm tired of going dark.Tired of blacking out.Tired of memory loss. They are finally here. The engine came to an abrupt stop. The old rickety door was kicked open. They jumped down from the truck.I heard their feet hitting the earth hard.I heard everything.I heard the guard walk upto them blocking the entrance in an attempt to interrogate them.I was expecting them to drop and start shooting at every living creature in sight. But no.One of them calmly walked upto the guard saying something like "what is your name young fella?" The question came in a very polite manner that I began to wonder if they really are who I thought they are. Then sound came.Fast and quick. The cracking sound of a bone. The nice guy snapped the guard's neck.My wolf howled.I gave in and he took in. The Regent had Doctor Vincent fill a vial with the blood sample. She left the cottage that was perched at the top of a valley.Away from the quiet life of Hidden Springs. She got into the Chervy Camaro and her tires crunching over the chippings as she made her way into the dirt road that went down the valley. "What is this? What is this that we have in this town? What is this creature?"She kept asking herself as she sped down the valley. She turned street of Burger Avenue. There was no much people outside.Stories flying about the devil's in their midst. She climbed the familiar double lumps.Hidden Springs is actually a drive through little town. She turned left heading down the steep hill that will take her to the police station. She was going for Karl. But something caught her eyes. She just drove past a white dust covered Toyota Tundra 2016 version. The head lamps went lit and they trailed slowly behind her.She slowed down for the driver to overtake her but the 4×4 slowed down too. She was being followed. She gripped tight her leather steering wheel and pushed down her foot furiously on the pedal and the car behind her picked pace. Her heart was thumbing fast. She turned into a street and came out at the other end of the road. She was on high speed now praying to make it to the police station. She looked up at the car rear view mirror again but the double streak of yellow light was no longer behind her.She yanked open the storage compartment and pulled out a brown leather folio bag. With her right hand on the steering, she held the bag with the left hand unzipping it with her mouth. She held it upside down dropping the whole contents of the bag on the essex floor mat.Bending over, she picked up a neat shiny black desert deagle. It was loaded already. She held the pistol in her left hand as she placed it on the steering maneuvering the car with her right hand.It crossed her mind. She didn't loose them. They flanked her.The T junction infront of her. They took the dirt road that swerved right and she knew they will be coming after her again from that direction once she gets to the junction. With her head lamp high up,she saw the road sign that indicates a T junction 20 kilometres away from her.She sped up swerving off the road onto the brushes and shrubs by the roadside. They are going to charge their car to her's and she knew it. She was one step ahead of them.On getting close to the junction, she turned off the engine. The car was rolling down the valley now.No headlamp.Nothing.She was too scared to climb onto the road. There might be traps. They are after her but why?She couldn't a hang of what was happening.Everything was happening too fast and she tried as much as possible not to panic. She was headed for the cell to go talk to Karl and here, this car is after her. What do they want? She's at the junction now..She turned the ignition and the car came to life.Racing straight up,she will have to go down the steep valley that will drop into a gorge below. Is either she turn right or left. She was being flanked from the right side. She knew they'd be coming for her from the right. She climbed the road and swerved left but then something happened. It came blinding her completely. The brightness was too intense that her retina retracted to a tiny dot.She stopped the car abrubtly. The lamp went off.It took her a while for her sight adjust to normal. Her headlamp was still on.She saw men.Three of them walked upto the car.She knew they held something. Weapon-like but she couldn't make out what it is in particular. They are just silhouettes approaching her afterall. She held the pistol with both hands as she balanced her arm atop the steering. She was visibly shaking. "Hey!What the hell do you think you are doing?"She screamed. The driver's tempered glass was down now. They kept coming. Hey! Hey!" She yelled again. "Don't shoot please. Please don't."She said to herself. But they kept coming. Her hand on the trigger, she aimed at the guy closest to her.Any second from now, they will be on her.Who knows what the hell they want.A flush of strength came to her,she didn't waste her time. She didn't want to give way for fear to come. She allowed the flow to take over and pulled the trigger.
