**Jake’s POV***
Not long after I left the room Steven came downstairs and joined me around the table in the kitchen.
“We all know Huro had something to do with this,” I said
“You’re sure it was his scent down the river? I picked it up also but I wasn't sure"
“Spike is never wrong, and you know it.”
“Yeah but that’ll mean Huro was careless to leave his scent like that, and everyone knows he is a master at removing his trail”
“Unless he wanted to be found.”
“But why?"
“I don’t know but I’ll find out.”
“Dude you know what? I think that’s a bad idea and besides this whole thing makes zero sense.”
“I mean if I go down the river again and track his scent from there then I’ll be sure to find him”
“And do what? Tickle him?” We both turned around from our chairs and saw Marry standing near the doorway.
“You two know very well Huro is bad news and don’t go around starting fights with that beast. He gives me the creeps.”
“Don’t forget nightmares too” Steven joined.
“I’ll take Rowen and Owen along. Where are they anyway?” I said looking at Marry
“Jay please stop this, are you even listening? You know mom doesn’t want anyone near that beast for a reason.”
“Yeah man and taking those two is a bad idea. I mean you know what Huro did to their pack and he might have had something to do with your cute little human up there”
“I can’t believe she’s still sleeping” Marry said disappointedly
“She’s awake.”
“Oh, My Goddess she’s awake? Eeeeeeee!!”
“You do realize you’re going to damage our eardrums right?"
“Whatever. I finally have someone I can talk to apart from you guys” She hurried upstairs.
I wouldn’t be surprised if she wasn’t this excited, she’s been eager to have a girl time with someone, whatever that means.
They were right, Huro is a beast and he’s never careless enough to leave his scent.
I needed to know what that human did to have been covered by Huro’s scent and live long enough to see another day. I went outside and found Owen and Rowen training, I never felt incomplete or lost with Owen being my gamma and Rowen my beta. They never settled for less, they were always on their feet training and preparing as though we were about to go to war, with Huro being in the picture there could actually be war ahead of us.
“We are going back to the river. We need to find out what’s the connection between that human and Huro.”
“Yes, Alpha!” Rowen said
Owen got in the Jeep waiting for us. He’s a man of few words, few creepy words, he never spoke that much except nod or stare deep into your soul. Yikes!
Rowen and I got in the Range Rover and drove off to the river, we couldn’t shake the fact that we felt watched. I turned around and looked at Owen after stopping the RR.
“Owen, you smell anything?”
“No Alpha!”
“Rowen?”
“Neither”
“Neither can I. He must have come back and covered his scent.”
Spike kept nibbling eager to be let out. I just couldn’t figure out what got him so worked out.
“Jay, what do you suppose we do now?” Rowen asked. He always referred to me by my real name or nickname when it’s just us but when we’re in the presence of our pack he always calls me alpha.
“We’ll go back and milk some information out of that human. She can’t be that fully useless.”
“Careful with your words, but that means we’ll have to wait for her to wake up.”
“How dreadful!” Owen said while rolling his eyes
“She woke up early today”
“Then why didn’t you ‘milk’ the information out of her?”
“She claims to have lost her memory, she doesn’t remember anything,”
“How annoying!” Owen said once again rolling his eyes
“So you met and spoke to a human without me being…uhh…I mean without us being around?”
“Where were you then?”
“You know very well where we were Jay, don’t play dumb.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about”
I could sense Rowen’s frustration which always made me laugh, except this time.
“So… is the human cute?”
“Average”
“Is she funny?”
“Average”
“Is she average?”
“Rowen focus, if this human is a distraction to you then I’ll make her life short since Huro failed to do so”
“How pathetic!”
"What's wrong with you two? we are never allowed to go near humans and here we are with a human under our protection, and you guys act like it's nothing?"
Spike still kept begging me to let him out, there was no one here and no scent at all. This made no sense. We had to get back to the house before I go crazy.
“Come on we have to hurry up to the house”
“Relax, I mean it’s not like she’s going to forget anything. oh yeah the doctor said she might have amnesia ”
“Really Rowen? What if she forgets to breathe?”
“Not cool Jay, Not cool.”
“Then let’s hurry up”
Everyone got in the RR and got the hell out of there. Of course, Rowen was mad at me for whatever reason.
“Rowen you’re a werewolf and she’s a human. What do you think is going to happen when you find your mate while you’re fluttered by a human?”
“But what if she’s my mate? You want me to ignore her cause she’s a human?”
“I mean, I was just asking, sheesh."
After what felt like eons we finally arrived at the house and mom was waiting for us outside. Steven must've told her where we went to, I thought to myself so annoyed.
“Dinner is ready and I was worried your food would get cold”
“Then we’ll warm it up mom, it’s ok”
She gave us all a hug and went back inside and around the table was everyone except the human. I could tell mom knew who I was searching for from the look on her face.
“Marry my love won’t you go and let Ella know dinner is ready”
“ok mom”
“Who’s Ella?” of course I had to ask
“Jay, did you expect us to live with someone we can’t identify?”
“She can’t identify herself!!”
“That’s enough. She told Marry herself she doesn't mind the name Ella, so Ella she shall be.”
That’s when her scent hit my nostrils. At least she didn’t have Huro’s scent anymore. Man, why did she have to be so cute and innocent?
