📺 Episode 12 – “The Clocktower”
FADE IN:
EXT. EBON HOLLOW – CLOCKTOWER – NIGHT
The survivors — Mara, Jalen, and Ivy — emerge from the subway tunnels, battered and exhausted. Above them looms the clocktower, its hands ticking backward with a grinding, unnatural sound.
The town is too quiet. No creatures in sight. Just the heavy tolling of the bell.
IVY
(whispers)
It’s like they’re waiting for us.
Jalen tightens his grip on his pistol.
JALEN
Then let’s not keep them waiting.
INT. CLOCKTOWER – ENTRANCE – NIGHT
They push inside. Dust, cobwebs, rotting wood. A spiral staircase winds upward into the dark.
At the base of the stairs: carvings in the stone. Names. Dozens. Hundreds. Some scratched out, others repeated again and again.
Mara runs her hand over the wall. She finds her own name carved there. And Jalen’s. And Ivy’s.
MARA
(horrified)
We were always meant to be here.
INT. CLOCKTOWER – STAIRCASE – NIGHT
They climb, each step heavier. The whispers rise, growing louder the higher they go.
Mara sees her father on the landing, smiling.
Ivy sees her mother.
Jalen sees soldiers from his past.
Each hallucination tempts them to stop, to turn back.
Mara shouts over the noise:
MARA
They’re not real! Keep moving!
INT. CLOCKTOWER – TOP CHAMBER – NIGHT
The survivors burst into the bell chamber. The massive pendulum swings slowly — backward. The gears grind like bones.
And waiting for them is a figure cloaked in shadow: THE CLOCKKEEPER. Pale skin. Hollow eyes. Always smiling.
CLOCKKEEPER
(voice echoing, inhuman)
Welcome home. You are the hands of the clock. The town ticks because of you.
He gestures to the bell.
CLOCKKEEPER (cont’d)
One must ring it. One must feed it. And one must remain.
The survivors realize with horror: the town requires a sacrifice to keep its cycle.
INT. CLOCKTOWER – SHOWDOWN – NIGHT
The chamber shakes as the creatures swarm the tower, flooding the staircase.
Jalen raises his pistol.
JALEN
I’ll hold them. Go.
MARA
No—don’t you dare—
JALEN
Somebody has to.
He shoves Mara and Ivy toward the bell and turns to face the swarm, firing until he’s swallowed by shadows.
INT. CLOCKTOWER – BELL – NIGHT
Mara and Ivy reach the massive bell. The Clockkeeper looms behind them.
CLOCKKEEPER
Choose. Or the town will choose for you.
Mara looks at Ivy — terrified, shaking.
MARA
(to Ivy, firm)
You’re going to live. You’re going to see daylight again.
Before Ivy can protest, Mara grabs the rope and yanks it. The bell tolls backward, shaking the whole tower.
The creatures scream in agony. The Clockkeeper shrieks.
EXT. EBON HOLLOW – CLOCKTOWER – DAWN
The first rays of sun break. The creatures vanish. The whispers stop.
The bell falls silent.
Ivy stumbles outside — alive. Alone.
She looks back at the clocktower. Mara and Jalen are gone.
Her face hardens. Tears streak her cheeks.
IVY (V.O.)
The rules keep you alive. But the Hollow… it always takes what it’s owed.
The bell tolls once more. Backward.
FADE OUT.
