📺 Season One – Episode 6: “The Stranger’s Warning”
INT. DINER – NIGHT
The survivors cluster around the wounded man on the diner floor. Mara presses cloth to his wound, sweat dripping down her face.
MARA
(to Ellen)
I need more light.
Ellen holds a lantern closer. The man’s skin is pale, feverish. His clothes are shredded like he’s been dragged through the forest.
Ivy hovers nearby, anxious.
IVY
What if he’s one of them?
MARA
He’s bleeding. They don’t bleed.
The man groans, muttering incoherently. His eyes flicker open — glassy but alive.
MAN
(hoarse, whispering)
You… shouldn’t have… brought me here.
The group exchanges uneasy looks.
INT. DINER – BACK ROOM – NIGHT
Mara stitches the man’s side as best she can with scavenged supplies. Jalen stands guard by the door, pistol ready.
JALEN
(to Mara)
You sure about this?
MARA
He’s human. That’s enough for me.
The man stirs again, grabbing Mara’s wrist weakly. His voice cracks:
MAN
They’ll come harder now. Because of me.
Mara frowns.
MARA
What do you mean?
MAN
I left them. I broke… the circle.
His hand slips away. He faints again.
Mara looks at Jalen, unsettled.
EXT. DINER – NIGHT
The whispers outside swell. The creatures move differently tonight — circling, scratching strange marks on the boarded walls. Their grins never falter.
Ellen peers through a slit. Her face tightens.
ELLEN
They know he’s in here.
INT. DINER – LATER NIGHT
The group sits tense. The wounded man lies unconscious, his breathing shallow.
Ivy stares at him.
IVY
If he’s the reason they’re acting up, maybe we should… you know…
She makes a throat-cutting gesture.
Mara bristles.
MARA
He’s not our enemy.
ELLEN
(quiet but sharp)
He might be.
Jalen leans forward, voice low.
JALEN
What if he’s proof? Proof someone’s been out there surviving longer than you’ve told us.
Ellen’s eyes narrow.
ELLEN
You think I haven’t seen people stumble in before? They don’t last. None of them last.
INT. DINER – NEAR DAWN
The survivors drift in uneasy silence.
Suddenly — the man convulses, gasping awake. He claws at the floor, eyes wide with terror.
MAN
(panicked)
It feeds… on time. That’s what this place is.
Everyone stares.
MARA
(softly)
What are you talking about?
The man’s gaze flicks to the boarded windows.
MAN
The Hollow doesn’t want your blood. It wants your years. Your memories. Every sunrise you see here… it eats a piece of you.
Ivy stares at him, horrified.
IVY
So that’s why nothing changes. Why we feel… stuck.
The man nods weakly.
MAN
I was part of a circle. We… gave it what it wanted. A little at a time. Sacrifice, ritual. That’s why I lasted. That’s why it hasn’t taken me.
Mara recoils.
MARA
Sacrifice?
MAN
(whispering)
Blood for time. That’s the bargain.
EXT. DINER – DAWN
The first light seeps in. The creatures vanish back into the fog.
Inside, the survivors exhale, exhausted. The diner is quiet. Too quiet.
Ellen lowers her shotgun, but her eyes stay fixed on the stranger.
ELLEN
(quietly, to herself)
Damn fool brought the circle here.
INT. DINER – MORNING
The stranger wakes again, weak but lucid.
MARA
What’s your name?
MAN
Caleb.
MARA
Caleb… who’s “them”? Who’s in this circle?
Caleb’s eyes glint with fear.
CALEB
Not who. Where.
He slowly points toward the forest.
CALEB (cont’d)
The ruins. They’re not ruins. They’re a temple. And the people there… they’ll kill anyone who breaks the ritual.
The group falls into stunned silence.
EXT. MAIN STREET – DAY
The survivors step outside into the pale morning light. The woods loom beyond the bridge.
Mara looks back at the diner, then at Caleb — barely able to stand.
MARA
We can’t ignore this. If there are others out there, we need to know.
Ellen grips her shotgun, jaw clenched.
ELLEN
And if it’s true? If they’ve been feeding this thing to survive?
Mara meets her gaze.
MARA
Then we’ll have to decide what kind of survivors we want to be.
The bell tolls in the distance. Backward.
The camera pushes in on the group, standing at the crossroads between the town and the forest.
FADE OUT.
