The old prisoner's words echoed inside Lyria's mind.
The mother of the three heirs.
She slowly backed away until her shoulders hit the cold stone wall.
"What are you talking about?"
The old man stepped closer, the chains around his ankles scraping against the floor. His gray hair hung over his face, but his sharp amber eyes studied her with unsettling certainty.
"I have waited twenty years for this prophecy to come true."
Lyria frowned.
"I don't understand."
"You will."
Before he could say another word, heavy footsteps echoed through the dungeon.
The old man's expression changed instantly.
"Do not tell anyone what I said. Not even the Alpha King."
He retreated into the shadows just as the iron door swung open.
Four Royal Guards entered the cell.
"The King has summoned you."
Lyria's heart skipped.
Why would he send her after denying he even knew her?
The guards escorted her through the long palace corridors until they stopped outside a massive black door.
One guard pushed it open.
"Go in."
Lyria hesitated before stepping inside.
The room was enormous. Shelves filled with ancient books lined the walls, while a roaring fireplace cast long shadows across the floor.
The Alpha King stood by the window with his back to her.
He didn't turn around.
"You may leave."
The guards bowed and closed the door behind them.
Silence settled between them.
Lyria clenched her fists.
"You wanted to see me."
Still, he didn't face her.
"I'll ask you one question."
His voice was cold and controlled.
"What happened in the Blood Moon Forest?"
She stared at him in disbelief.
"You know exactly what happened."
He finally turned.
His silver eyes were unreadable.
"I asked a question."
Anger surged through her.
"You called me your mate."
His jaw tightened.
"You left your royal ring."
His fingers curled into a fist.
"You disappeared before sunrise."
For a brief second, something flickered across his face.
Guilt.
Then it vanished.
"You are mistaken."
Lyria laughed bitterly.
"Mistaken? You looked into my eyes and said I was your mate."
"Enough."
His alpha aura exploded through the room.
The windows rattled.
The books trembled on their shelves.
But Lyria refused to look away.
"If I'm lying, then tell me why your ring was beside me."
Silence.
The Alpha King's breathing became heavier.
Before he could answer, someone knocked urgently on the door.
"My King."
The captain of the Royal Guards entered without waiting for permission.
"There is an emergency."
The Alpha King frowned.
"What is it?"
"The royal physician has completed the examination."
His face turned pale.
"It is exactly as the prophecy warned."
The Alpha King's expression darkened.
"Speak."
"The Moon Stone has awakened."
"And..."
The captain swallowed hard.
"It sensed the presence of the future Luna."
Lyria's heart skipped.
The Alpha King's gaze snapped toward her.
At that exact moment, a sharp pain shot through her lower abdomen.
She gasped and nearly lost her balance.
A faint silver light spread beneath her skin before disappearing.
The royal physician, who had just entered the room, stared at her in horror.
"My King..."
His voice shook.
"The Moon Stone wasn't reacting to the palace."
"It was reacting to her."
The room fell into stunned silence.
The Alpha King slowly looked at Lyria.
This time, there was no denial in his eyes.
Only fear.
