The Alliance Forged The return journey to the Hidden Village felt different. For the first time since the Shadow Army had reappeared, hope traveled with them. Alpha Garrick rode beside Kael in silence. Behind them marched nearly three hundred Iron Fang warriors, their banners fluttering proudly in the afternoon breeze. When they reached the village gates, the guards stared in surprise before quickly opening the entrance. The High Elder stepped outside, his weathered face softening as he saw the Iron Fang banner. "It seems the Moon Goddess has answered our prayers." Garrick stopped before the elder and bowed his head respectfully. "I came as a skeptic." "I return as an ally." The elder smiled. "Then today marks the beginning of something greater than any kingdom." That evening, a great council was held inside the village hall. Representatives from the Silver Claw Pack, the Frost Moon Pack, and the Iron Fang Pack gathered around a large wooden table. Maps of the surrounding territories lay spread before them. Kael stood at the head of the table. "The Shadow Army is advancing through the northern valleys. If they continue at this pace, they will reach the eastern territories within days." Eryx pointed to the map. "If we divide our forces, they'll overwhelm us one pack at a time." Ronan nodded. "We need a united army." One by one, the Alpha leaders agreed. Messengers were immediately sent to the remaining packs, carrying news that the Iron Fang Alpha had joined the alliance. Lyria watched quietly from beside Kael. She noticed the change in the room. The doubt she had seen only hours earlier had begun to disappear. Respect had taken its place. As the meeting ended, Garrick approached her. "I owe you more than an apology." Lyria looked at him curiously. "My daughter told me everything." He lowered his voice. "You protected her before protecting yourself." "I would have done the same for any innocent life," Lyria replied. Garrick gave a small smile. "That is why you deserve the crown." Before Lyria could answer, a young messenger rushed into the hall. His breathing was ragged. "Your Majesty!" Kael turned immediately. "What happened?" "The Red Stone Pack..." The messenger struggled to steady himself. "They've been attacked." The room fell silent. "How many enemies?" Ronan asked. The young wolf swallowed hard. "Thousands." "They came out of the forest before dawn." "No warning." "No mercy." Garrick clenched his fists. "We must ride there immediately." The High Elder slowly shook his head. "It is already too late." Everyone looked toward him. "The Shadow Army never attacks without purpose." "They didn't invade that pack..." "They claimed it." The elder's words proved true before sunrise the next morning. Another exhausted scout arrived. His armor was stained with blood and ash. He collapsed before Kael. "The Red Stone Pack has fallen." "No survivors?" Kael asked quietly. The scout lowered his head. "A few escaped." "But the Alpha..." "He surrendered to save his people." Lyria frowned. "He surrendered?" The scout nodded. "He now fights for the Shadow Kingdom." Shock spread through the hall. "Impossible," Eryx whispered. "The Shadow King offered him power." The scout's voice trembled. "And he accepted." The room grew deathly still. Kael slowly closed his eyes. The Shadow King wasn't simply conquering lands. He was stealing leaders. Turning them into weapons against their own people. Far to the north, inside the ruins of the captured Red Stone Pack, black banners rose above the broken walls. The Shadow King stood upon the Alpha's throne. Below him knelt dozens of defeated wolves. Some bowed willingly. Others were forced to their knees. The former Alpha of Red Stone stood before him, his eyes empty and lifeless. Dark markings spread across his neck like twisting vines. The Shadow King placed a hand on his shoulder. "You chose wisely." "I chose survival," the Alpha answered hollowly. The Shadow King smiled. "No." "You chose me." A ripple of black energy spread through the Alpha's body. His eyes slowly turned crimson. The last trace of resistance disappeared. Watching from the shadows, a slender woman dressed in black stepped forward. A silver serpent was wrapped around her arm, its golden eyes fixed on the throne. "My King," she said, bowing gracefully. "The Night Serpent awaits your command." The Shadow King looked toward the south, where the Hidden Village lay beyond the mountains. His voice was calm, but filled with deadly certainty. "The alliance is beginning to grow." "So we shall destroy it from within." The woman smiled. "As you wish." She disappeared into the darkness without making a sound. Somewhere in the Hidden Village, completely unaware of the danger drawing near, Lyria gently placed a hand over the crescent mark on her wrist. A sudden chill ran through her body. She had the unsettling feeling that someone was already watching her from the shadows.
