The Queen's Light
The temple doors shook violently.
Another heavy blow echoed through the ancient hall, sending dust drifting from the ceiling. Outside, thousands of shadow warriors surrounded the sanctuary, their growls rising like a storm.
Inside, fear filled every corner.
Children clung to their mothers.
The wounded lay across the stone floor while the healers worked desperately to save as many lives as they could.
Kael stood near the entrance with Ronan, Eryx, Garrick, and the remaining warriors.
Blood stained his armor, and exhaustion weighed heavily on every man still able to fight.
Ronan glanced toward the doors.
"They won't hold much longer."
Kael nodded.
"I know."
Another deafening crash echoed through the temple.
Large cracks spread across the ancient stone entrance.
The Shadow Dragon was still battling the monstrous creature outside, but even its powerful roars sounded weaker than before.
Lyria moved among the wounded, kneeling beside an elderly woman whose breathing had become shallow.
The healer looked up with helpless eyes.
"I've done everything I can."
"There are too many."
Lyria looked around the temple.
Everywhere she turned, she saw pain.
A little girl cried as she tried to wake her unconscious father.
A young mother held her injured son close, whispering prayers through trembling lips.
Several warriors struggled to remain awake despite their wounds.
The sight broke Lyria's heart.
She closed her eyes.
Moon Goddess...
If you can hear me...
Please...
Don't let these people die.
A warm breeze suddenly swept through the temple.
The silver pendant Kael had given her began to glow.
At the same time, the crescent mark on her wrist burned brighter than ever before.
The High Elder looked at her in astonishment.
"The blessing..."
Lyria slowly opened her eyes.
They shimmered with a soft silver light.
She lifted both hands.
Without understanding how, she allowed the power flowing through her heart to spread freely.
Silver light poured from her body like gentle streams of moonlight.
It drifted across the temple, touching every wounded soul.
The little girl's father opened his eyes.
The deep wound across his chest slowly disappeared.
An elderly warrior who had been unable to move stood on his own feet once again.
Broken bones mended.
The bleeding stopped.
Pain faded.
One after another, the injured began to recover.
The temple fell silent.
Everyone watched the miracle unfolding before them.
The light continued to spread until it reached every corner of the sanctuary.
Lyria's knees weakened.
The power was leaving her body faster than she expected.
Kael rushed forward and caught her before she could fall.
"You've done enough."
She shook her head weakly.
"If I stop now..."
"Some of them won't survive."
Kael gently held her shoulders.
"They're alive because of you."
"You don't have to carry everyone alone."
The silver light slowly faded.
Lyria leaned against him, breathing heavily.
She had never felt so exhausted.
The High Elder stepped forward, his eyes filled with emotion.
"I have studied the ancient records for more than sixty years."
"I never believed I would witness the Moon Goddess's Healing Grace."
The villagers looked at Lyria with new eyes.
Not as a queen chosen by prophecy.
Not as Kael's mate.
But as the protector who had risked her own life to save theirs.
One by one, they knelt before her.
Soon the warriors followed.
Even Alpha Garrick lowered his head.
"We owe our lives to our Queen."
A chorus of voices filled the temple.
"Long live Queen Lyria."
Tears filled Lyria's eyes.
She had spent so long trying to prove she was worthy.
Now she realized respect could never be demanded.
It had to be earned.
Before anyone could speak again, the temple trembled.
A scout hurried inside through a hidden passage.
His face was pale.
"The Shadow Army..."
Kael looked at him.
"What about them?"
"They've stopped attacking."
The room fell silent.
"Why?" Ronan asked.
The scout swallowed hard.
"They've withdrawn into the forest."
"They're waiting."
The High Elder's expression grew grave.
"No..."
Kael frowned.
"What is it?"
The old man looked toward the dark mountains beyond the temple walls.
"They were never trying to destroy us tonight."
"They were delaying us."
Lyria's heart skipped.
"Delaying us for what?"
Before the elder could answer, the ground shook with tremendous force.
A distant roar echoed from beyond the mountains.
It was unlike anything they had ever heard.
Even the Shadow Dragon answered with a warning roar of its own.
The High Elder closed his eyes.
"They've awakened the Guardian of the Forbidden Forest."
"And if we do not reach the First Relic before the Shadow King..."
"He will possess a power that no army in this world can stop."
