Tinkerbell is dead...

“Boo….” I almost jumped out of my skin. It was none other than Evie. “You i***t. You scared me half to death.” She was laughing so hard that she was clutching her stomach. I laughed with her. “Sorry June I couldn’t resist the urge. This house now has a real Haunted look.” “I’ll pay you back for this one day Evie. Just you wait.” We looked at each other with mischievous smile. I couldn’t keep it in anymore. I hugged my bestie. It’s been so long. I guess we both were about to cry. But I held back. We broke away from the hug. “It is so good to see you Evie. I've missed you so much." “Me too girl. Me too. Don’t worry. I’ll make sure to stick around longer this time.” “No. I will make sure you won’t leave like that again. And if you do, I’ll hunt you down and bring you back.” I laughed and she joined me. “Oohh…. Scary!!” Our bed was still there. Although it was rotten and the smell that came from it was too smelly. Evie had bought a blanket. So we spread it on the ground and sat down. I could see that she was totally prepared for our meet up. She had bought some snacks and even a few cans of beer. I opened up a can of beer and sipped the cold liquid. Ah... That hit the spot. We sat there and chatted for a few minutes. Evie told me about her family. She had finally found her happily ever after. Her husband is a Canadian working in Italy and she told me it was literally love at first sight. They had a baby girl who is three years old now. Eva was the little pumpkin's name. She showed me baby Eva’s pictures. A cute little girl smiling with her mini teeth at the camera. She was totally adorable. Now that Evie got transferred back to her hometown, her family had come with her. They were gonna settle down here. Evie promised to go for a picnic with her family and mine soon. The topic then drifted off to Max. I narrated the whole story of how we met. As I finished the story, her eyes were filled with disbelief. “I knew you were a tough girl. But didn’t expect you to make the first move. I’m really happy for you June.” Soon the sky darkened and the dimly lit room got darker. Evie lit a candle as put it up near the blanket. The shadows caused by the flame danced across the floor. “You even bought a candle?” “Always be prepared.” She said with a smile. It was past 7:00 when we decided to leave. I wanted to have dinner with her but she declined saying that she told her family she'll be back by dinner. She promised me that we’ll have dinner the next day. “No excuses tomorrow Evie. If you don’t come, I’ll kidnap you and take you to dinner.” “Yes ma’am. Order received.” We laughed again. I couldn’t wait to get home to tell Max about our meeting. But the happiness only lasted a few minutes. The blue light from the squad car was the first thing that got my attention. Two police cars were parked on our neighbour’s drive way. A couple of police officers were searching around with lights. And one of them was talking to Judy. She seemed sad and frightened at the same time. I pulled in my car onto our driveway. As I got out of the car, I saw one of the police officers who was looking around came up to me. “Good evening miss. Do you live here?” “Good evening officer. Yes. I do. What is the problem? What happened here?” “Do not worry we are conducting an investigation. But I would recommend you to be careful for some days till we find the killer.” “Killer?” “Yes ma’am. The Hopkins had called in reporting their cat found dead in a suspicious way. We doubt there may be a killer on the loose. The body of the cat was mangled and its heart was found missing.” Who would do that. That’s so crazy. “Can’t it be a wild animal that had killed the cat?” “It was not done by a wild animal. The cuts on the body seemed to be too clean as if done with a knife.” “Oh.” “We think the killer might be back. So we advice you to stay indoors and to call 911 if you find anything suspicious. Also if you have any pets, please be careful to not let them out at night.” “Yes. I will be. Thank you for that officer.” “Have a good day Ma’am.” He walked back to the others. Well a killer was the last think this place needed. I think Max hasn’t come back yet. His car wasn’t on the drive way. Just then I felt like a bolt of current was passing through me. Coco. How I could I forget about him. I rushed towards the house. I looked for him in his usual place by the sofa. He was not there. “Coco. Coco. Where are you boy? Come out. I have a treat for you.” I waited a few minutes to hear his response. Nothing. I went upstairs and called his name. Still nothing. As I turned to walk down the stairs, I heard a thud sound coming from inside our room. “Coco? Is that you boy?” With a clenched fist, I walked towards the door. The door was slightly open. I remember closing the door this morning when I went out. I slowly opened the door. “Coco?” ******** Hey, How are you doing? Guess what she found inside the room? Was it the killer? Stay tuned for the next chapter. Comments please. Also don't forget to follow me. Love, SB
