I finally had the courage...

I found out that Max’s company was near my hospital. So we hung out now and then. He started visiting my house for dinner and I his. Max’s mom still lived with his uncle. She didn’t want to come back to the place where her daughter was no more. So Max stayed on his own in the large house. In order to escape from his loneliness, I asked him to get a dog. Man’s best friend could give him a good company. He declined the thought at first. So I went to the pet shop and bought him a golden retriever puppy. I surprised him with it on his birthday. When he opened his gift, he was excited.

“Surprise….”

“Oh!! You shouldn’t have June. He’s so beautiful.”

“Well you wouldn’t get a dog by yourself. So I had to do it for you. Plus it’s your birthday and a birthday gift can’t be returned.”

“Don’t worry, I won’t return it. Even if you begged me… “

“Hey…”

I punched him in the hand playfully.

Max named it Coco. During the weekends, we walked Coco and played with him in the park. When Max had to go on business trips, I took care of Coco. Coco grew up and was more intelligent than most dogs his age.

Max and I talked about everything. I was his first friend that he had after coming back. We were very close. During this time, I found out that he didn’t have a girlfriend. Funny, how that piece of news gave me relief. So he was single. But feelings didn’t work one way. If he doesn’t have any feelings for me, I will be embarrassing myself and that may also put our friendship on the line. So I kept it locked inside me.

On a Saturday, as usual, we were walking Coco in the park. Max held his leash in the hand. I walked in front of Max and was answering a call. Coco was always an enthusiast when it came to squirrels. So when he saw one, just like always, his curiosity took over. Pulling on the leash, he started to run. He knocked me over into the wet grass and took off in the direction of the squirrel pulling Max behind him. Max crashed into me and fell on top of me. With the leash tailing him, Coco ran towards the trees.

And at that moment, I realised something. Max was really heavy!!!

I pushed him off of me. We sat up. He looked at me and suddenly burst into laughter. I laughed along with him. He picked out a leaf from my hair. And at that moment, my eyes locked with his. I felt that queasy feeling again. I guess this was what they called butterflies. I my case, it was more like a bunch of angry bees. My locked up feelings started to surface. Suddenly I came to my senses and broke the eye-contact. If I had held on for a few more moments, I would have kissed him then and there. Such intoxicating was his charm.

Coco came back after getting tired of chasing the squirrel around. My clothes were all dirty. Since his house was near, he asked me to get cleaned up before going back. We went to his house and Max found me some clothes to wear. I took off my dirty dress and washed it. After taking a shower, I changed into the clothes that he gave. When I came out into the living room, he had set up some food.

“Come on. I’ve made some snacks. Have these before you go.”

“They look amazing Max!!”

The smell from those snacks filled up my nose and my mouth was filled with water instantly. I sat down and filled up my mouth. I hadn’t noticed that my stomach was in fact growling due to hunger. When my hunger was appeased at last, I took notice of Max. Seeing Max fresh out of shower made me have goose bumps all over. Ok stop it. You are being ridiculous. What is wrong with me. I have to stop daydreaming.

I took the empty plate into the kitchen to wash them. Max followed with the rest of the plates. He kept them on the counter. I started washing them and he joined me. While washing the plates, his hands touched mine leaving a trail of fire. Ok. That’s it. I’ve had enough with this stupid mind of mine. I washed my hands, dried them and grabbed his head and kissed him. Yes that’s right. I kissed him. It was awkward. But I couldn’t keep it to myself anymore. As we broke apart, I turned my head away, suddenly aware of what I’ve done. I’ve blown it. Oh god.

Well I had to face him right? So that’s what I did. His face was a mix of disbelief and surprise. He looked at me. Then his hand came up to my head and pulled my lips into his and we were entangled in another one of those crazy and hot kisses.

So that’s how Max became my boyfriend…
