Chapter 8

I drove past the address Dr. Poole was so kind to provide... after I nearly ripped his jaw off. The old man vamp was tough to crack, but after a proper beating and a few threats, he gave up the vampire who stole my girl. I made a pass back to scope things out, to see if I could tell if anyone was home. The curtains were drawn, but that wasn’t unusual for a vampire. I was giddy with excitement at having found her. This accomplishment alone was going to get Lucas off my ass and save my standing within the pack. The fact Alpha Lucas was my uncle made no difference. A pack of members standing is earned, not given. I parked at the end of the street and walked back. I didn’t want to draw attention to myself. I made my way up the walkway and followed it around to the back of the house, watching around me to make sure I hadn’t been seen. Stepping up the steps to the back door, I slid my lockpick out of my pocket and went to work. Piece of cake. Sneaking into the house as quietly as I could, the stink of rotting meat overwhelmed my sense of smell. I wanted to gag. f*****g stinking ass vampires, I thought to myself. But alongside that disgusting odor, I caught the sweet scent of my girl. Jackpot! I soon caught on that no one was home. Walking through the house, I found the kitchen and saw a pan with a piece of rare steak. Awe, how sweet, feeding the baby werewolf, I thought. I turned my attention to the table and saw a bottle and two glasses. What the hell is he doing getting my girl drunk, the nerve? I snorted and continued walking through the house, coming upon the bedroom. I inhaled as deeply as I could, drinking in her scent. I walked over to the bed, sniffing as much of her as I could. The rotting stink of that vampire mixed in with her lovely scent was ruining it for me. I noticed a bathroom to my right, so I crept in. In the trashcan I saw a hospital gown, so I pulled it out. Under the gown was a pair of wadded up hospital underpants, so I took them out too. I unraveled them and put them on my face for a deeper sniff. I will never tire of her smell. I didn’t mean to turn her. In fact, I didn’t know that her biting me would cause it. I remember seeing her that first night with her roommate. She was such a wallflower, which piqued my interest in her even more than her ravishing beauty. I had to have her, but she wasn’t giving me the time of day. That’s why I took her. I had it all planned out. After the abduction, I made sure she didn't see my face. I was the only one to touch her for filming. After we were done, no way would I have sold her or given her up. I intended on keeping her, maybe tricking her into believing I was the good guy and help set her free. Who knows, it is all fantasy now. I pulled out my phone to let Lucas know I had found her and needed reinforcements. “You had better have good news for me,” said Lucas. “Relax. I found her.” “Good. That's good.” said Lucas, sounding relieved. “She is shacked up with that vampire we smelled at the scene. I found the house. They aren’t here at the moment, but I need some help when they show up.” “Text me the address when we hang up and I will send all the help you need.” “You got it.” “I’m impressed, kid. That didn’t take you long at all. How did you do it?” “I started thinking about her being injured. I know every hospital has a vampire or werewolf working there in one way or another. I sent sniffers out, and I got a hit at the LA medical center. I had a nice conversation with a Dr. Poole. Old vamp is going to be drinking his blood through a straw for a while.” I chuckled. It was silence on the other end. “Hello?” I asked. “Are you simply stupid, or are you just a full-blown retard?” Lucas growled. “What?” “You heard me.” “I don’t understand. You said get the girl at all costs.” “Boy, have I taught you nothing? Do you know what you have done? Do you even know who Dr. Poole is?” “Well, isn’t he just a vampire playing a human doctor?” I asked. “On the surface, yes, you jack ass. He is also one of the oldest vampires alive but refuses appointments to the council, but he still advises from time to time. He is ancient and well respected by vamps and Wers alike, you f*****g i***t. You do not know how much worse you have made this.” Yelled Lucas. “I’m sorry Lucas. I didn’t know.” “You seem to know nothing these days. How many times have I told you to know your enemy?” I had nothing to say about that. He was right. He has always told me to make sure I know who I am dealing with. I didn’t think an old vamp would be such a problem. I had nothing to say for myself. “Text me the f*****g address now. Dont you leave, wait there. I’m coming to handle this personally. Then, you and I have some things to discuss. Are we clear?” He hung up on me before I had time to answer. I’m in deep s**t again. I can’t win with this asshole. I texted the number to him, fingers shaking as I entered the address. He is pissed. There was no telling the wrath I was going to face the next time I saw him. Lucas’s POV “f**k!” I felt like chucking my phone across the room. That f*****g i***t is going to get us all busted. His disregard for what we had going was astounding, his stupidity- painful. One thing is becoming obvious. In order to save the rest of us, I have no choice. I’m going to have to kill Todd. It is a sad matter of fact. I don’t understand what the hell he was thinking by attacking the old vamp. I've met Poole several times. He could have been persuaded. There was no need for violence. I’m going to find a way to fix this, and do it fast. If it hasn’t got back to the council yet, it will soon. I don’t need that. Once the rest of the vamps find out what happened to their beloved doctor, they are going to be out for blood, and it sure as s**t will not be mine. No. As much as it saddens me, that little s**t is going to take the fall for this. My partners and I have too much riding for one dip-s**t to come in and f**k it all up for us. That’s what I get for a little nepotism. I tried to give my brother’s boy a hand up, but this kid is too much of a moron to handle it. Right now, I need to smoothe things over about Poole. Then I’m going to get my ass over to this vampire’s house and clean up the rest of this s**t show. I dialed a number into my phone and waited for an answer. “May I speak with Dr. Poole’s people? I have information about his attacker.... Yes, I'll hold. Thank you.”
