“Why am I only hearing about this now?” asked the voice on the phone.
“It is a minor problem, one I felt no need to burden you with,” Said Lucas.
“And you’re saying you haven’t found the unintended yet?” asked the voice on the phone.
“No, but we are close. We know she is with a vampire named Hunter.” said Lucas, trying not to panic as silence came from the other end. He leaned back into his big, over-stuffed chair in his dimly lit office. The pause on the other end was long and tense, sparking anxiety in him. He felt sweat tease his forehead. Finally, the voice on the other end spoke. “You know, Lucas, this is bad. If one of your guys turned someone, or the kidnappings, or even the fact we are working together, it all has dire consequences. This s**t with your guy roughing up Dr. Poole was bad enough. We don’t need this kind of heat.”
“I know, sir. We will have them soon. I've got my guys on it waiting at his house now.”
“You’re wasting your time. I guarantee Hunter knows they’re there, and he is long gone. He isn’t stupid. The guy sells houses for a living and is all about those damn silent security systems. He knew as soon as your guy got in. I know him and believe me, he can be a problem.”
“Do you have any suggestions on how to deal with this guy?” asked Lucas.
“You worry about that little s**t head Todd you got there. I will look for Hunter.”
“You can do whatever you want with Hunter, but I want the girl, and I will definitely take care of Todd as soon as I’m done with him.”
“You better hope to hell you do. I am telling you to handle your s**t and fix this, Lucas, right f*****g now.” said the voice, cold and stern. Then the line was disconnected.
A shiver ran up Lucas’s spine. He took a deep breath and rubbed his temples. Although he was an alpha, he still had to answer to someone, and this someone had already proven he could be more ruthless than any werewolf can be. He didn’t want to be on the receiving end of ruthless. He knew he had to light a fire under Todd’s ass. Once Todd came through, if he did, he knew he was going to have to get rid of him. It was just a sad fact. The kid can’t be trusted. He sighed as he dialed Todd’s number.
Todd’s POV
I leaned back and kicked my feet up on a cushy recliner waiting at this vamp’s house. I laid her hospital panties on my face and drank her scent in. She smelled great. Honestly, I regret the way things ended up. I really liked her when we met. She wasn’t the typical tramp we find at these parties. Most of the girls we find would go anywhere with you for a little blow, but not her. Her room-mate was a target from the moment they walked in, but this girl was smart and beautiful and called me on my s**t out the gate. I don’t know why, but it turned me on.
I kept replaying that first night with her over in my head. We weren’t supposed to take her too, but she wouldn’t let her friend out of her sight, so I got creative. A little Rohypnol goes a long way. This one I kept for myself. No one else touched her but me. I had it all planned out. It would have been beautiful. I didn’t expect a little bite would turn into this. We had to bite someone to turn them. I didn’t know it could work the other way around. Turning her was a happy accident. I don’t give a damn what the council thinks. I was going to get her back and make it work. Damn what it takes. I lay there, lost in her sent with my thoughts.
“Man, there’s something wrong with you. I mean, really man, sniffing her panties?” I heard a voice.
“You don't know this girl, Nick. There's something about her,” I said.
“I guess so. Alpha said to bring her back alive.” said Nick.
“Maybe, but I am not giving her over like that. I made her, she’s mine.”
“Ha! Let me know how that works out for you man.” laughed Nick.
My phone rang from my pocket. “Yeah?” I said when I answered.
“Abort. It’s pointless to wait, he knows you’re there,” said Lucas.
“You’re sure?”
“Damn boy, you thick or something? I said abort. We have to find a different way to get him. Get the guys and get out. Meet back here at the pack house.”
“Yeah, alright.” I said and hung up the phone, furious. “God Damn-it!” I said as I got up and kicked the recliner.
“ What's up, Todd?” Nick asked me.
“Alpha says that asshole vamp knows we are here. Abort and regroup back at the pack house.” I told him.
“Alright. You need a ride back?” asked Nick.
“No, I got my car. Get Chris and meet me there.” I said, still pissed about having to leave. I can’t believe I was that close to getting
her back, and she slipped right through my fingers again.
