The Unintended

Chapter 4

Todd stood there, silent and trembling. The Alpha Lucas was pissed and Todd knew it. He had f****d up royally and was going to pay dearly.

“So, just to be sure, I am understanding the situation correctly. You took it upon yourself to grab an extra girl for shits and giggles, which you r***d repeatedly. Then she bites you. You’re too stupid to realize that a bite and blood exchange will turn her and she gets away, killing Joe and Mark, and wounding Danny on the way out. On top of that, she’s at large and you don’t know where she is now, but you tracked her scent to the road where you think she met a vampire? Does that about sum it up?”

“Yea. Yes Alpha Lucas.” answered Todd. Fear kept his throat constricted. His reply was pathetic and high pitched. He stared at the floor, terrified to look the alpha in the eye.

“What?” asked Alpha Lucas, getting in his face.

“Yes Alpha Lucas. You understand perfectly.”

“Where the f**k were you when all of this was going down?” growled Lucas.

“I was on a beer run, sir.”

“A beer run? Really?” Lucas rolled his eyes. He knew he was surrounded by idiots.

The alpha backed away from Todd and paced the room. He didn’t show it, but he is scared too. Turning a human is forbidden by the council. It was an offense punishable by death. He was going to do everything he could to get the problem under control, get the girl back, and cover his tracks. If the council found out a human was turned on his watch, and he was engaging in illegal activities, especially with humans, he would lose everything. To make matters worse, if Todd was right, and she met a vampire, that’s an entire set of other problems on its own. He was pissed at himself for leaving a dweeb like Todd in charge to babysit a bunch of humans.

They had a multi-million dollar business making these films, and bonus when the girls they didn’t end up killing in the process were sold for extra profit. There was one more concerning crisis. She bit Danny on the way out. Danny was another useless human, probably turned after he was bit, a problem Lucas was going to solve immediately. The stress was palpable. Lucas turned to address Todd.

“I should kill you.” he said. Todd shuddered at his words. “You had one job. Your mistake puts many people at risk.” Lucas walked up to Todd and put a hand on each cheek and made the omega look him in his eyes. “I am giving you one chance. If you f**k this up... well, it is better you don’t. Do you understand me?”

“Yes Alpha. What will you have me do?” Todd asked.

“First, bring me Danny. Now.” said Lucas, shoving him hard to the ground.

“Yes sir. He is upstairs, I will be right back.” said Todd, scrambling to his feet. He returned with Danny a moment later. Todd and Danny both stopped at the doorway entering the living room, next to the kitchen, where the girl bit Danny during her escape.

“Ah, Danny. Good to see you. Come on over, I won’t bite.” he smiled.

Danny looked at Todd. Todd motioned by nodding his head in the alpha’s direction. Danny hesitantly approached Lucas with his head down, but Todd stayed put, relieved the focus wasn’t on him any longer.

“Ah, Danny. How are you feeling.” asked Lucas.

“I’m alright sir.”

“Let me see where she got you.”

Danny unbuttoned his flannel and pulled his shoulder from the sleeve. They covered it with gauze and tape.

“You mind?” asked Lucas, removing the bandage, not waiting for him to answer. He got the bandage off and inspected the wound.

Yep, a classic wolf bite, he thought to himself. It had only been a few hours, but it already looked to be healing, confirming his suspicions that Danny would turn. He laid the gauze and tape back over the wound, looking Danny in the eyes, smiling. “She got you good.” he said circling the boy, sniffing the new wolf stirring from within him.

“Yes, she did, sir. She charged me up the stairs before I realized what happened. What’s going to happen to me?”

“What’s going to happen to you? Nothing.” Lucas grabbed his head with both hands and jerked, turning his head on his neck 180 degrees. “See, I told you I would not bite.”

Todd jumped and gasped. “What? It had to be done.” said Lucas, rushing up to Todd, taking his throat in his hand. His eyes glowing red and his fangs extended out.

“What I did to him was a f*****g act of mercy and kindness. It was nothing compared to what I will do to you if you fail me again. Do you understand me?” growled Lucas.

“Yes Alpha. I understand.” said Todd.

“The next time I see you, it is because you’re delivering the girl, dead or alive, got it?”

“Yes, sir. Loud and clear. Bring you the girl.”

“Good. We understand each other. Now get the f**k out of my sight and don’t come back without the girl.”

“Yes sir. Thank you.” stammered Todd as he stumbled backward.

Lucas watched him walk backwards to the door. He knew there was no way Todd would turn his back to him. Most likely Todd was pissing himself with fear because he let something like this happen. The truth of the matter is, this goes much higher up than any of the lower omegas knew. As far as they knew, he was the master of the operation, when truthfully, there were other parties involved. Monsters far worse than himself, and they would not be pleased about this. Lucas knew he had to buy time and keep his partners from finding out.
