Chapter 3

Nelly's Pov After our exhilarating escapade with Alexander's betrothed, Samantha, I endeavored to suppress my burgeoning emotions for him. I comprehended the implausibility of anything transpiring between us, and I was wary of jeopardizing my employment or his relationship. However, as the days progressed, I found it increasingly arduous to resist his allure. Alexander appeared to discern my attraction towards him, and he commenced confiding in me about his tribulations with Samantha. He divulged their clashes and their gradual estrangement. I avidly listened, experiencing a surge of empathy towards him. One afternoon, we collaborated in his office when he abruptly rose from his seat and approached me. His gaze bore into mine, brimming with intensity. "Nelly, I must divulge something to you." I glanced up at him, sensing a wave of unease. "What is it?" "I am discontented with Samantha. Our rapport is faltering, and I perceive a growing chasm between us." I sympathized with his plight. "I am sorry to hear that, Alexander. Can I be of any assistance?" He shook his head. "No, I merely sought someone to confide in. It has been weighing heavily on my mind." I nodded, feeling an intimate connection with him. "I understand. You can always confide in me if you feel the need." He bestowed a warm smile upon me, causing a surge of affection to envelop me. "Thank you, Nelly. You are an exceptional friend." In the ensuing weeks, Alexander and I grew intimately acquainted. We spent more time together, engrossed in discussions about work and life. I found myself falling more deeply for him. He possessed kindness, wit, and a prodigious intellect. His presence was exhilarating, and I couldn't resist the yearning that consumed me whenever we were apart. One evening, we toiled late into the night in his office when he suddenly locked eyes with me. "Nelly, may I ask a question?" "Of course," I responded, feeling a flutter of nervousness. He approached me, gently grasping my hand. "Do you perceive what I perceive?" I met his gaze, overwhelmed with bewilderment. "What do you mean?" He drew nearer, his breath grazing my skin. "Nelly, I find you extraordinary. I am drawn to you, and thoughts of you consume my every waking moment." My heart raced at his words. "Alexander, I am at a loss for words." He inched even closer, our lips mere inches apart. "Nelly, I yearn to kiss you. Will you permit me?" For a fleeting moment, I hesitated, cognizant of the impropriety. However, I succumbed to desire, a surge of longing pulsating through me. I leaned in, our lips meeting, and an electric current coursed between us. We kissed fervently, as if time stood still, lost in our overwhelming passion. I acknowledged the immorality of our actions, but I couldn't suppress the overwhelming sense of elation. At that moment, nothing else mattered but Alexander and me. But then, just as the intensity reached its zenith, a resounding knock reverberated through the door. We swiftly disentangled from each other, exchanging bewildered glances. "Alexander, it's Samantha," a voice called out from the other side. Alexander looked at me, his eyes full of fear. "Nelly, you have to hide. She can't see you here."I nodded, feeling a sense of panic. Alexander quickly helped me hide under his desk, and I tried to steady my breathing as Samantha walked in."Alexander, what are you doing here so late?" she asked, looking around suspiciously. "I was just working," he said, trying to sound casual. Samantha looked at him skeptically, then walked over to his desk. I held my breath as she leaned down and picked up a file."What's this?" she asked, flipping through the page "It's just some work stuff," Alexander said, trying to sound nonchalant. Samantha raised an eyebrow. "Is there someone else here with you? Alexander's eyes darted to mine, and I tried to stay as still as possible under the desk."No, of course not," he said quickly. Samantha looked at him suspiciously, then walked over to the door. "Fine. I guess I'll leave you to your work then."As soon as she left, Alexander helped me out from under the desk. We looked at each other, both of us breathing heavily. "That was close," he said, running a hand through his hair. "Yeah," I said, feeling a sense of guilt. "I shouldn't have let this happen."Alexander looked at me, his eyes intense. "Nelly, I don't regret what just happened. I want to be with you, even if it means risking everything."I shook my head, feeling a sense of fear. "I don't know, Alexander. This is too risky."He took my hand, looking at me with a sense of determination. "Please, Nelly. I need you. I can't keep pretending that everything is okay with Samantha when it's not. I want to be with you, and I don't care about the consequences." I looked at him, feeling a sense of confusion. Part of me wanted to be with him, to let go of all my worries and just give in to our attraction. But another part of me knew that it was wrong and that I couldn't risk my job or his relationship. "I don't know, Alexander," I said, feeling tears welling up in my eyes. "I need some time to think."He nodded, looking at me with a sense of sadness. "Okay. Take all the time you need. But know that I'm here for you, no matter what." With that, he walked me to the door and we said goodbyes. As I walked back to my apartment, my mind was racing. I knew that I couldn't keep letting my feelings for Alexander grow, but at the same time, I couldn't shake the sense of attraction I had toward him. I spent the rest of the night tossing and turning, trying to make sense of my emotions. But no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't shake the feeling that Alexander was the one for me. And no matter what the consequences, I couldn't resist the pull between us. As I finally drifted off to sleep, I knew that I had a decision to make. Whether to risk everything and be with Alexander or to try and resist our attraction and stay in our current roles. It was a decision that could change everything, and I wasn't sure I was ready for it.
