Alexanders pov. As I walked up to Nelly's apartment building, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement. Nelly and I had been growing closer over the past few weeks, and I couldn't wait to spend some more time with her. But as I reached her front door, I heard a loud noise coming from inside. I hesitated for a moment, wondering if I should knock or leave, but then I heard Nelly's voice. "Eric, you need to leave. You can't just show up here unannounced."I felt a pang of jealousy as I heard the name. Eric was Nelly's ex-boyfriend, and I knew that he had caused her a lot of pain in the past. But then I heard him shout back. "Nelly, we need to talk. I have something important to tell you."I decided to intervene, not wanting to leave Nelly alone with him. I knocked on the door and heard her call out, "Who is it?" "It's Alexander," I said, hoping she would let me in. There was a moment of hesitation, and then the door opened. Nelly looked relieved to see me, but Eric glared at me. "What are you doing here?" he demanded."I'm here to see Nelly," I said firmly. Eric scoffed. "Of course, you are. Always trying to get in the way. Nelly stepped between us, looking anxious. "Eric, what do you want?"I need to tell you something," he said, his voice low. "It's important."Nelly hesitated, and I could see the conflict in her eyes. But then she turned to me. "Can you give us a moment?"I nodded, feeling a sense of disappointment. I knew that Nelly needed to deal with her past, but I couldn't help but feel jealous of Eric. I stepped outside, waiting anxiously as I heard raised voices coming from inside the apartment. But then, suddenly, there was a loud crash. I rushed back inside, my heart pounding. I found Eric standing over Nelly, his face twisted with anger. "You can't ignore me, Nelly. You have to listen to what I have to say."I stepped forward, feeling a sense of protectiveness for Nelly. "Eric, you need to leave. You're not welcome here."He turned to me, his eyes blazing. "Who are you to tell me what to do?"I'm someone who cares about Nelly," I said firmly. "And I won't let you hurt her again."Eric took a step towards me, and I braced myself for a fight. But then he suddenly collapsed, clutching his chest. Nelly rushed over to him, looking panicked. "Eric, what's wrong?"I watched as she tried to help him, feeling a sense of helplessness. But then he looked up at her, a twisted smile on his face."I have something to tell you, Nelly," he said, his voice weak."Something you should know. Nelly looked at him, her eyes wide with fear. "What is it?" Eric took a deep breath, his eyes closing. "You're adopted, Nelly. You're not their daughter." I felt a sense of shock as I heard the words. Nelly looked at him, her face pale."What do you mean?" she whispered. Eric looked at her, a sense of triumph in his eyes. "Your parents were never able to have children. They adopted you when you were a baby."I watched as Nelly stumbled back, her eyes filling with tears. "No," she whispered. "That can't be true." But I could see the pain in her eyes, and I knew that Eric was telling the truth. Nelly had always felt like she didn't quite belong, and now it all made sense. I stepped forward, wanting to comfort her, but she pushed me away. "Get out," she said, her voice shaking. "Both of you. I need to be alone."I hesitated for a moment, wanting to stay with her, but then I saw the determination in her eyes. She needed to deal with this on her own. I turned and left the apartment, feeling a sense of sadness and confusion. I didn't know what to do or say, but I knew that Nelly needed time to process this information. As I walked away, I couldn't help but feel angry at Eric. He had caused nothing but pain and chaos, and now he had dropped this bombshell on Nelly. I knew that he had done it to hurt her, to get some twisted sense of revenge. But I also knew that Nelly was strong. She would be able to handle this, with or without my help. And I would be there for her, no matter what. As I walked back to my apartment, my thoughts were consumed by Nelly. I didn't know what the future held for us, but I knew that I cared for her deeply. And I would do everything in my power to help her through this difficult time. In the days that followed the revelation, Nelly's world seemed to be turned upside down. The weight of Eric's words lingered heavily on her shoulders as she grappled with the newfound knowledge of her adoption. Her parents, whom she had loved and believed to be her biological family, were now a source of confusion and uncertainty. I kept my distance, giving Nelly the space she needed to process her emotions. It was painful to see her struggle, but I respected her request for solitude. Occasionally, I would check in with a brief text message, letting her know that I was there for her whenever she was ready to talk. One evening, Nelly sent me a message asking if we could meet. I agreed, my heart pounding with a mix of anxiety and hope. As I entered her apartment, she looked fragile yet determined. Her eyes were red from crying, but her gaze held a newfound resolve. "I've been thinking a lot since that day," Nelly began, her voice steady. "And I've realized that even though I may not share blood with my parents, they're still my family. They raised me, loved me, and supported me. That's what matters." I nodded, impressed by Nelly's strength and clarity. "You're right. Family isn't just about genetics—it's about the bonds that are formed through love, care, and shared experiences." Nelly gave a faint smile. "Thank you for understanding, Alexander. And I want you to know that your support means a lot to me." We spent hours talking, sharing our thoughts and feelings about family, identity, and the twists that life can throw our way. Through our conversation, I felt our connection deepening even further. Nelly's resilience and wisdom were evident, and I admired her ability to face adversity head-on. In the weeks that followed, Nelly took steps to mend her relationship with her adoptive parents. Their conversations were emotional and challenging but also filled with moments of healing and growth. I admired Nelly's courage as she navigated the complex journey of understanding her identity and redefining her sense of belonging. As for Eric, he seemed to disappear from Nelly's life as abruptly as he had entered it. His revelation had brought turmoil, but it also seemed to mark the closing of a painful chapter. Nelly was determined not to let his actions define her future. Our friendship continued to evolve, and it became increasingly clear to me that my feelings for Nelly had only deepened. But I was cautious and respectful of her healing process and the newfound clarity she had gained about her family and priorities. Through it all, Nelly and I remained pillars of support for each other. We shared laughter, encouragement, and moments of vulnerability that only strengthened our bond. While the road ahead was uncertain, I was certain of one thing: Nelly's strength and resilience were inspiring, and I was grateful to be a part of her journey.
