Chapter 1: The Cataclysm

217 Words
The world had been on the brink of disaster for years. The leaders of the major countries had been warning their people of the dangers of climate change, but no one had listened. The corporations had continued to exploit the environment, and the politicians had continued to deny the reality of the situation. And then, one day, it happened. The cataclysm. A massive storm, the likes of which no one had ever seen, struck the planet. The winds howled, the rain fell in sheets, and the lightning lit up the sky. When it was over, the world had changed forever. The cities lay in ruins, the forests were silent, and the oceans had turned into wastelands. The sun had been blotted out by a thick layer of clouds, and the sky was perpetually dark. The few people who had survived the storm had retreated underground, hoping to ride out the chaos and wait for help to arrive. But help never came. The world had fallen into darkness, and the people had fallen into despair. They knew that the resources were dwindling, and the machines that had kept them alive were breaking down. They lived in fear of the day when the lights would go out for the last time, and they would be left in darkness forever.
