I was in the hotel’s restaurant to meet Abby, the daughter of a mayor who was a rising star. I got bored with her gossip about celebrities I didn’t even know, except for Daniel Harris. A beautiful woman caught my attention. She walked towards me, swaying her hips. I can’t help but be mesmerized by her beauty.
I was astounded when she came to me and kissed me. I could feel that she was new to the art of kissing. Is this her first? I guided her lips; I was like her teacher, teaching her to give a proper kiss. Her lips were so sweet, and her scent was intoxicating. I couldn’t help but hold her waist and mumble with pleasure. We tried to catch our breath after the torrid kiss. I want to kiss her again and do more for her.
I whispered... “More practice Pepper.” I stared at her beautiful face and wanted to kiss her once more. My breath hiked when she smirked, touched the contour of my lips and my fingers, and I winked at her. “I will.” Damn! I don’t want her to kiss another guy; I want to snatch her and kiss her again and again until her lips become swollen. She turned and walked away from me. I followed her every move like a hawk. She got my attention, as I could feel unfamiliar feelings inside me.
Abby glared at me; she took her bag, stood up, and left me fretting. I turned to their table, but they had already left. I sighed. Her beautiful face and innocent look keep bothering me. I even dreamed of her many times.
If not for duty calls, I would not come to this kind of ball. I stared at the invitation and remembered the girl again. I never felt like that. I was in a relationship, but I was never serious about it. Maybe if I decide to settle down, I’ll do it for practical reasons.
I went to the stakeholder’s ball organized by the Armed Forces. I didn’t bother to bring anyone. I don’t have the patience for women’s vanity. I was surprised when I saw her; she was stunning in her dark green gown. I frowned when I could see her cleavage from her fitted bodice gown and her great legs when she walked with her full tulle skirt slit. I clenched my jaw when she was in the arms of another man, a man I knew.
I approached them, “Fancy meeting you here, Kev.” They turned, “Mitch, my man, where have you been?” Kevin patted my shoulder, and we shook hands. I looked at her and at her hands holding Kevin’s arms. I scowled.
“Hello again, Pepper, I greeted her. I wanted her to know that I remembered her clearly, and I wanted Kevin to know that I knew her.
“Do you know each other?” Kevin asked. We both answered no and yes at the same time while we stared at each other. I was called by my commander. I patted Kevin’s arm and left. I joined my seniors, and they talked about territorial disputes in the Pacific region.
I didn’t pay attention; my mind lingered on the two people who were smiling at each other sweetly. I watched them. Kevin took her hands and led her to the dance floor. She put her arms around his neck and his hands on her waist. I took the glass of wine from the usher and drank it in one gulp. I called her Pepper because of her hair. I was drowned in her beauty, and I can’t help but get jealous of Kevin.
I almost broke the glass I was holding when Kevin gave her a peck on the forehead. It was obvious that their relationship was deep, and I hated it. She turned to me and saw me glaring at them. I had never experienced this kind of possessiveness before. I even considered marrying someone for convenience, without attachment, but just out of obligation.
The thought was inside my mind for too long, and I aligned myself to find a decent woman to marry, not considering the feelings. I was very practical and born with good manners. I will treat my future wife with care and respect. I am a loyal and principled man, but my world and my perception of marriage collapsed when I experienced this kind of strong feeling.
I dedicated my life to service and was assigned to different conflict areas around the world. I met Kevin on one of our joint missions together in the Middle East. He was a trainee at the Primestone firm back then, but the boy got skills. All Lawrence Primestone recruits were exceptional. They took down monsters efficiently.
I saw her go to the comfort room. I followed her and waited outside. I couldn’t help myself; the feelings she evoked inside me were torturing me. When she emerged from the door, she was surprised to see me waiting for her, leaning on the wall. I didn’t give her a chance to move, as I took her hand and pulled her to me; her face collided with my hard chest. I kissed her hungrily; she joined my tongue like they coexisted in the same environment as our mouths connected.
We both panted when we caught our breath. “Did you practice with Kevin Pepper? Your skills improved.”
Thinking about her kissing Kevin brought mixed feelings inside me. I wanted to kidnap her and be her man. She arched her brows. “Yes, I did practice well; I plan to explore my other skills aside from kissing.” She left me and returned to Kevin. Damn! I will not let it happen. I will do everything to make her mine.
I went back to the function hall of the hotel. My senior officer’s wife invited me to join them. I didn’t show my boredom with their gossip and topics about hair, makeup, fashion, health, and food. Their gazes went to Kevin’s partner.
“She’s the chef here; her brother owns this hotel and chained hotels across the world. I love the food here, and the staff are all efficient. I heard she toured the world to visit the hotel’s restaurants, experimented on different cuisines, studied dishes, and then created a great new one. She was featured in one of the cooking and health magazines,” one of the women said.
For the first time, I listened intently to the women. I even gave them my sweet, rare smile, appreciating her information secretly. So. Her brother is a billionaire. I was not intimidated by wealth throughout my life. Even the wealth of my father, who abandoned us.
Kevin is a tech genius who works for the company where the armed forces have a contract. They supplied sophisticated weapons, air crafts, and equipment. I even worked with one of their best assets on my previous mission in the Middle East. Their company’s people were efficient and all geniuses. The founder was once an assassin. Kevin was recruited and grew up inside the firm. I didn’t know what kind of training they were doing inside, but I was sure that their training was tough and modern.
I clenched my teeth when she grabbed Kevin and kissed him. She really did it—kissing other men like she said—and I wanted to kill Kevin right now. I watched them leave the party, and I started to follow them.
