Derek's POV
I slowly peel my eyes open and groan as I was hit with a sudden headache and dizziness, looking around, I realized I was lying down in an unfamiliar room, I try to lift myself and I fell back on the bed with a thump due to the pain in my abdomen, only then did I realize that a whitish substance was wrapped around my stomach, I decided to lie down a bit till I regain a little strength in my lower body, I began to look around, wondering where I was as I try to recall the events that led me to where I was,
“You still need to rest boy,” I heard a voice say, looking up, I saw a young woman holding in her hand a tray containing a bowl of water and a rag,
“Who are you?"I asked,
“Where am I? what is this place!” I rushed out as I try to stand, instantly I fell back and groan in pain, she immediately dropped the tray and rushed over to my side and help me up.
“Who are you?" I asked again as I looked around hastily: trying to find a way to escape,
“Put your mind at rest, I have no ill intention," she said with a soft voice as she helped me to the bed,
“I found you at the portal entrance; wounded, probably because you landed roughly,”
“What portal?" I asked, confused, immediately waves of memory began to hit me, instantly I held my head and groan in pain, remembering Diana, I immediately turned to face her;
“What about the woman who was with me?” thinking Diana must have changed her look, I decided to rephrase my question,
“Did you see any old woman?” the woman stared at me with confusion written all over her face,
“ I found your body lying alone,”
“Oh no!” I said as I try to stand up again,
“Calm down Derek,"
“You don't understand, she's in danger,” I said as I made another attempt, suddenly I realize something,
“Wait a minute, how did you know my name?"
I questioned, she then closed her eyes and transformed in front of me,
“M-mrs O-old stone!" I said, awed,
"Hello Derek," she said,
“Y-you, you..." with a dumbstruck face I pointed to her,
“You can call me Kaira,”
“You know Diana?”
“Yes, she was the one who sent me a message to wait at the entrance of the portal,”
“ So you are also from Euranor, what are you? are you also an elf like Diana?"
She looked up at me and chuckled softly
“I'm a fairy and the princess is like a sister to me, back then, when Zalzard and his troops attacked Euranor she saved me and brought me to Gardenia with her since then I have pledged my allegiance to her and I have been hiding in Gardenia disguised as a mortal,” she said and began to walk towards me, she then placed her hand on my Injury, then suddenly I felt a current run through my veins; she stood up and instructed me to take off the bandage, I removed the bandage and stare at her in awe: the wound was healed,”
" Fairy power, get dressed, the princess said she will be back by nightfall, we should go wait for her,” she said and led me out of the room.
On the way to the entrance, I was left alone with my thoughts, and to think these mystical creatures had been among us all this while, protecting us from evil quietly without our knowledge was shocking,
“Here, "she said breaking me out of my thoughts, and handed me a parcel,
“I picked this up for you,” I opened it and checked the content; It was the orb, I had completely forgotten about it,
“What have you been doing in Gardenia all this while?" I asked,
“Well! the princess assigned me to protect you and the sword, after the previous incident, we couldn't risk something like that happening again even though your memory was erased but to be on the safer side, I have been watching over you,” she said and chuckled, I realized she was a little childish and jolly, if Toby found out about this, he would almost faint.
It was rather chilly at the entrance, I instinctively clasp my hands over my arms and vigorously try to rub some heat into myself as we waited, moments later and there was still no sign of Diana, I began to feel uneasiness settle in the pit of my stomach and gone was the jolly Kaira, she could not stop pacing around, it was getting so hard to sit still by the minutes,
“I'm going to find her," I said as I stood up, immediately Kaira grabbed my hands,
“No! that's the orders she gave me, that at all cost I must stop you from doing so," immediately my expression harden,
“Why?” I asked,
“B-because if you go now you will expose yourself and Diana does not want that and...”
“And what Kaira?"
“Actually... she also said if she's not back before nightfall I should give you this," she brought out a neatly folded parcel, I opened it and read the content;
"Dear Derek, if you are seeing this, it means I have failed and Zalzard has already gotten to me and probably knows about you now, by the time you are reading this, I'm probably dead, now the fate of the seven kingdoms rest on your shoulders, with the help of the stone, you will be able to get the map in Caravelle; time is not on our side, with me gone, the emperor and heart are in grave danger, so you must hurry, Kaira will have you prepared for your journey, she will have to stay in Gardenia and protect your family and the rest, this adventure will be hard and dangerous Derek, but remember you are the chosen one, I believe in you.”
"No!" I whispered, immediately I ran for the door but something held me back,
"Let me go!” I said, my voice thick with emotion,
"I'm sorry Derek, I can't let you go as she said you are our last hope and if what she said is true, they are probably looking for you or waiting for you to come to them, believe me, I want to avenge her death too but if you go now, Diana's death will be for nothing; you can't afford to be reckless,” she pleaded,
I immediately drop down on my knees: feeling helpless, then I heard a sound, I looked up and saw Kaira staring at an orb in her hand,
“It turned dark, she's really gone," she said as a tear drop from her eyes, she immediately wiped it off;
“Come on, we have to get back, your family must be worried, tomorrow we summon the sword.”
