The call.

825 Words
Alyssa. “Hello?” The sound of his voice was so soothing, she closed her eyes briefly and was brought to the present when he spoke again, “Alyssa?” She cleared her throat and blushed at her own behavior before responding, “Hello, who’s this?” She knew it was Marcel. Who else of the opposite s*x would be calling her if not him? Plus he said he’ll call. Duh. “It’s Marcel.” “Ohh,” she was trying to play it cool, to sound chill even though her heart was beating so loudly she can hear it. Or was it just her mind? She shook her head and continued saying, “How are you?” “I’m alright. How are you doing? How are you feeling?” “I am doing fine and I’m feeling okay. I’ve been better.” “I’m sure you have been.” There was an awkward pause, Alyssa had no idea what to say in response to what he just said. How do these things go?!? She wondered in her head. “So, I was just calling to check on you and also to keep my word.” “Thank you, I’m doing fine.” Well he saved them from one awkward conversation, “and thank you so much for the other day.” “It’s nothing. I wish I had been there earlier.” “Please you were there right on time. I still wonder what would have happened if you had not come.” “You don’t need to because I came right on time.” His voice when replied was soothing, and the fact that he used the same words she had used eased her up. “Yes, you did.” “So, I’ll see you in school tomorrow?” “I doubt that.” She replied without even thinking of it. “Ohh? Why?” “I actually didn’t think about it, I came back home feeling really exhausted so I figured I needed a day or two to be pampered.” “Yes you do. That’s a great reason.” “I think that’s what I will do. I just blurted that out.” Alyssa said chuckling at herself. “If you want company, or you want to go to the beach, I’ll be available.” “That won’t be necessary, you’ve done a lot already.” Alyssa said then she quickly added, “plus I’m not ready for what Reese might try to do the next time she sees us together.” “Do you want me to talk to her about it?” Alyssa’s eyes widened, “No, no. That’s not necessary and there’s no evidence that she was the one who did it.” “Okay.” But his reply did not sound very convincing so she tried to get a more reassuring answer. “You can’t confront her without any evidence, Marcel. Okay?” “Okay.” He said, still not convincing enough so she made him promise. “Promise.” “What?” He asked chuckling. “I said you should promise that you…” “I will promise if you agree to let me take you to the beach tomorrow.” Marcel said stopping her from completing her sentence. Alyssa smiled, she wanted to, ohh she really did and it was the beach, so Reese won’t see them. What was stopping her? “Okay.” “Promise?” He said, repeating what she had said earlier. She laughed, “Ha ha, funny.” “So I’ll call you tomorrow morning so we can confirm the time that works best for you.” Alyssa noticed that he said, “For her” and that made her feel very special. “Okay.” “Talk to you tomorrow, Alyssa.” “Yeah, bye.” “Bye.” After the call, Alyssa did a short happy dance. She was going on a date! Then she shook her head, “Calm down, it’s just to the beach side like you normally do.” She said talking to herself. But she knew it was different, this time she was going with this super cute guy from school. She lay down in bed for a few more minutes before reaching for her phone, she had to call Devin and tell her about this. Then she stopped mid dial, “Should I?” She thought of Devin and all that energy that she had and it clicked to her that she was not ready for all of it especially as this was her first date. “No, I won’t tell her.” It was going to be a special moment for her. She wanted to take it all in, she wanted it to be a very personal moment. “I’ll just let her know after.” She said, shrugging as she just opted to just text her best friend instead of calling her.
