The threat.

The next day, Alyssa woke up with a start. She got a call from Devin. “Is everything okay?” Alyssa asked groggily. “Um, yeah. Why not?” “Because you never call this early.” “Yeah, yeah. I’m calling because yesterday all you did was text me to let me know that Marcel dropped you off and I want to juicy details.” Alyssa rolled her eyes and fell back in bed, “Come to class early, I’ll meet you there and tell you all about the “juicy” details.” Then she ended the call and closed her eyes as she replayed the day before in her head. She could not believe that she was thinking about Marcel so much that he was in her dreams. “Urghh!” She yelled before flinging her pillow to the other end of the room. This was the second time since she met him. He had been standing in front of her, smiling at her with those green eyes that seemed to see right through her. She shook her head to clear the cobwebs in it and got out of bed. As she got ready for school, she couldn't help but think about Marcel. She knew she should stay away from him, but she couldn't help but be drawn to him. She made sure her room was arranged before she went down for breakfast which she had alone as no one was out. She was out pretty early, she had notes to copy and she wanted to do that before classes for the day began. When she got to school, she saw Devin right away. “I was here two minutes before you so you know I’m serious about this.” Devin said a faux serious look on her face. Alyssa laughed as she parked her bicycle and she walked towards her, Devin was chaos, adorable chaos and she loved being her best friend. “Good.” She said when she got to her, “Now let’s go to the class, I’ll tell you how it went as I copy yesterday’s notes.” An excited Devin nodded and hooked her arm in the curve of Alyssa’s arm and they both walked together to the class. Today’s class was not as awkward. It was nice and for the first time in a while, Alyssa was greeted by someone other than Devin in class. Marcel. So yeah, it was a new experience that she did not hate. Reese also didn’t come at her or try to pick on her the whole day, that was an amazing development. Devin had said Reese would be seething because of the attention she was getting from Marcel but it seems Reese was okay with Marcel talking to her and she probably understood that there was nothing going on. The next day was the same, Alyssa was enjoying how she was feeling. Now, she did not hate school so much. It just felt like things were going to get better now. It just felt like things were going to get better now. Or was she being too hopeful? ******* A few days later, after class, Alyssa and Devin went to their lockers to put away their books. Suddenly, Alyssa felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned around and saw Marcel standing there. “Hi,” she said sounding a bit surprised. Causing Devin to also turn to see who it was. "Hi," he said to Alyssa, his gorgeous eyes on her before he turned his attention to Devin, "Hi, Devin." “Well, hi Marcel.” Devin said smiling at Marcel and then giving Alyssa a mischievous smile and a knowing look before closing up her locker, “Well, I was just about to leave this nerd.” She said referring the Alyssa who rolled her eyes in response. “Have a nice day Marcel.” Then she turned to Alyssa, “See you at my place later today, nerd.” Then she skipped away from them, humming as she went. "Is it just me or does she always leave when I’m around," Marcel asked sounding amused. "It’s not you, she does that,"Alyssa replied as she closed her locker and put on her backpack. They stood there for a moment, awkwardly. "So," Marcel said. "What do you like to do for fun?" "I like to read," Alyssa said. "And I like to go to the beach." "Me too," Marcel said. "we have something in common." “The beach? Or the fact that you like to read?” “Both actually.” They stood there, with Marcel leaning against the locker and they talked for a while longer, and Alyssa found herself really enjoying his company. He was funny and charming, but then she before she let her mind go any further, she remembered that he was a player, and that he would only break her heart. She didn't want to get hurt, so she decided to end the conversation. "I should probably get going," she said. "It was nice talking to you, Marcel." "You too, Alyssa," he said. "I can take you home if you want.” “Ohh, nah I’m good. I came with my bicycle today.” “Okay, then. I hope I see you around." Alyssa smiled and walked away, feeling conflicted. She wanted to see Marcel again, but she was afraid of getting hurt. Alyssa was on her bicycle riding home from school when she was attacked. She was riding down a deserted street when a group of girls jumped out from behind a car. "Hey, Alyssa!" one of the girls called out. "What's up?" Alyssa didn't recognize the girls. She started to ride away, reversing but they blocked her path. "We want to talk to you," the girl said. Alyssa stopped. "About what?" "About Marcel," the girl said. "We don't want you hanging out with him." "Hanging out with him?" Alyssa asked. “Yes. That, you should not be.” “First of all, I don’t hang out with him.” “You were just with him so what are you saying?” “That? He was just saying hi. He can’t do that? Why?” Alyssa asked getting angry. "Because he's ours," the girl said. "And we don't like you." The girls started to laugh. It was sinister. Alyssa felt a wave of dismay wash over her. "Leave me alone," she said. "Not until you promise to stay away from Marcel," the girl said. Alyssa shook her head. "I'm not going to promise anything. Especially when nothing is happening.” The girl's face turned angry. "Fine," she said. "We'll make you promise." The girls started to push and shove Alyssa. “Stop.” One of them pushed her off her bicycle, picked up the bicycle and proceeded to start throwing rocks at it and kicking parts of it. The other girls surrounded her, pulling her hair and clothes. She tried to fight back, but they were too strong. They punched her and kicked her, and they warned her to stay away from Marcel. Just then, Marcel came running up. He saw what was happening and quickly intervened. He pulled the girls off of Alyssa and told them to leave her alone. The girls were angry, but they didn't want to mess with Marcel. They backed down and walked away. Marcel helped Alyssa to her feet. "Are you okay?" he asked. Alyssa nodded, but she was still shaken up. "Thanks for helping me," she said. "No problem," Marcel said. "I'm not going to let anyone hurt you." “My bicycle.” Alyssa said as she turned to take a look at the destroyed bicycle, “it’s totaled.” She bent her head and started crying, “Hey, hey, I’m so sorry this happened.” Marcel said as he gently held her hand and squeezed, “Come on, my car is just around the corner. Let me take you home.” Alyssa sniffed and cleaned the tears before looking up at Marcel and nodding at him. “Should I carry the bicycle?” Alyssa shook her head, it was a horrible sight and she did not want to be reminded of what had just happened. “Alright. Let’s go.” They walked together to Marcel’s car and they did not leave immediately as Marcel helped to clean some of the bruises on her arms and her legs. “When you get home, you should get a massage.” “Please can you take me to a pharmacy or the infirmary so I can do that. I don’t want my parents seeing this and getting worried.” Marcel nodded and said, “Alright then, do you want to let Devin know?” For the first time Alyssa smiled and shook her head, “Nah, at least not now.” “Why not now?” Marcel asked. “Because she has always wanted me to join her martial arts class. So she’ll only nag me and probably force me to join the class.” Marcel laughed and started his car, “Maybe she should. I might join it too.” “Maybe.” Alyssa said, her voice low as she began to think about it. Marcel took Alyssa to the infirmary, and waited while her bruises were checked and she got massaged in the right places. After that he drove her home, on the way he asked Alyssa if she had an idea who the girls were, “Nah I don’t but I think Reese might have been behind it.” “Why?” Marcel asked. “Because she has always bullied me and this time it involved you. They kept telling me to stay away from you. That you were theirs.” “Wow, I’m so sorry.” “Please don’t be, this isn’t new to me. At all.” “Well, it has to stop then.” Marcel said before her parked his car on the side of the road and turned to Alyssa, “Let’s make it stop.” “How?” “Be my girlfriend.”
