Aunty Ruby’s POV. The clubhouse was usually quiet that afternoon, the hum of distant chatter softened by the slow turning of the ceiling fun. Aunty Ruby sat behind her wooden counter, counting the days earning when a tall young man stepped inside. He was well dressed, confident and carried himself with ease of someone who knew what he wanted. She looked up and offered him a polite smile. “What can I offer you, sir?” I asked. He cleared his throat.”My name is John. I need a lady to help me in my house.” I leaned back slightly studying him. “ this is a clubhouse” I said calmly “they work as waitresses…… and satisfy men too” John shook his head.”No not like that, I mean someone who can help at home. I live alone” My eyes narrowed with interest. I paused and nodded slowly.”Hmm” I murmured “ come back tomorrow” Our conversation ended there but my mind did not rest. By the next day a decision had already been made. Aunty Ruby is a woman in her fifties, hardened by years of survival and business. She owned a clubhouse and had been running it for some years now. She brought young ladies from the north, trained them and made them work for her. To her it was a business nothing more. Charlotte was her niece. After the death of her parents, she had taken her and raised her, though love was overshadowed with ambition. Charlotte was young, beautiful and innocent, qualities that made her valuable. Aunty Ruby had plans. Intended to sell her and use the money to expand her clubhouse. There had been an earlier agreement between her and a young man named Chris, but had delayed. Aunty Ruby hate waiting. When John appeared young, wealthy, polite and alone she saw an opportunity she could not ignore. And so,without hesitation, she chose him. Charlotte’s fate was sealed the moment Aunty Ruby decided that business came before blood. John’s POV Living alone in this large mansion has never been easy for me. Though I am young, successful and respected,my days were often heavy with responsibilities. As a business man and a owner of various companies around the country,my life revolves around meetings, contracts, conferences and endless decisions making. There’s little time for rest. The house, however, demands attention, rooms being cleaned up, meals to be prepared and silence to be broken. I needed help. Someone trustworthy, someone steady. Whenever the weight becomes unbearable, I find myself in the clubhouse. It was a place I could sit relax and clear my head. That’s where I set my eyes on Charlotte. A beautiful and charming young lady. Few days on, I had already told Aunty Ruby what I wanted and already paid for it, after work I stopped at the clubhouse to pick her up. Aunty Ruby’s POV. I did not hesitate. The moment John walked into the clubhouse looking for a help I saw an opportunity. Time wasn’t wasted. I went inside to bring Charlotte. “Come here,my darling” I called softly. Charlotte looked at her in surprise “ where are you taking me to Aunty?” I smiled softly”Just follow me.” As they walked together aunty Ruby spoke carefully, choosing her words as coins she planned to spend wisely. She told Charlotte about the man she’s going to meet, about the work she will do, and about the importance of good behavior. “You must respect your new boss”, she said firmly “ be patient and polite this is a good opportunity for you to leave this hell.” Charlotte listened closely with fear but hope. She had been in the clubhouse watching days pass without change. The thought of leaving, and starting something new filled her with quiet happiness. The story continues. John’s decision didn’t feel like kindness at first it felt like She thought it was just a different kind of cage.
