(Axels POV)
It's been just over a week since she disappeared. I’ve skipped most meals, and postponed all council meetings. I can’t face anything outside of my worry right now.
Lycan came by this morning, letting himself into the house through the unlocked backdoor. “With all due respect Alpha…get the f**k up, put on some clean clothes, stop moping around the goddamn house. Look I get it you’re hurting man, but you can still sense her. You KNOW she’s out there yet here you sit doing f**k-all about it!”
I stared up at him from my island on the couch. Half of me, the Alpha half, wanted to get up and rip him a new one for his disrespect. The other half of me, chose to ignore him and look to the window. I know he’s right, but what else can I do at this point?
We’ve interrogated everyone in the pack, and searched the packs nearby tirelessly. I was dead sure that we’d catch her scent at Blood Lake or at least recognize the two scents from outside the house, but nothing came up.
I was losing my hope that I would ever find her at this rate.
“You’re not the only one that cares for her man. She may not have been here long, but you had been without a mate forever. We’ve seen a different you since Ivy came into your life. Not to mention Ilyda found someone that wasn’t intimidated by her, and felt she finally had a real girl friend. You think this hasn’t been hard on the whole pack? We’ve all suffered this loss. Our Alpha is broken. The glue that holds this family together is loosening, and with it our unity. We need you back Ax man.”
I watched him walk out, feeling the weight of his words, but the heavier weight of my loss. f**k this. Lycan is right. Where ever my mate is right now, she’s probably scared, and trusting me to come through for her.
I’m going to Blood Lake. If my men can’t find her, maybe my bond to her will.
(Lycans POV)
“You’re not coming lyda give it up already! Aww man don’t look at me like that…” Ilyda had been stalking me through the house as I prepped to leave, trying everything in her arsenal to convince me to let her tag along. She only knew Ivy about a week, but Ivy was that kind of girl everyone instantly fell in love with. Hell, I missed her myself.
Something I said must have resonated with Ax, because not even fifteen minutes after I cussed his ass out he mind linked me to meet him.
“Lycan, she’s my friend too, I have a responsibility to help look for her! She’d do the same for me and you know it.” She pouted. “No she wouldn’t lyda! You wanna know why? Because no way in hell Ax would let her. Whoever took her did a damn good job of it, and right out from under her mates nose. Whoever we’re dealing with is dangerous, and I’m not putting you in the mix of that.” I told her with solidity. Placing my rough hands on either side of her alabaster face I tried a different approach. “I’m sorry baby, but I see what Ax is going through. I couldn’t live a day if it was you missing or hurt. I’ll be back within two nights time. Leave yourself untouched for when I get back, I’m going to need your body wrapped tight around me.” I said seductively running my palm over her heated center.
She held onto her pout for just a second longer, finally rolling her eyes with a smile and grinding forward onto my hand. “You’re dangerous Lycan. Hurry back to me.” She whispered.
I tossed her a swift kiss, and leaped off the porch shifting into my tawny brown wolf mid air.
(Ivys POV)
There’s not a whole lot to do when your stuck in a dark room alone. I began counting, and tallying the minutes on the sludge laden walls. It tedious work, but it’s giving me a sense of time.
Every six hours a guard comes down. He never speaks to me. He simply walks to the front of the cell, gives a quick scan of me , and a quick scan of the room before leaving. One hour after he leaves, Dax comes down. Usually it’s the same string of questions, insults, and obscenities, before he leaves in anger. ‘Do I accept him as my mate? When will I give up this foolish act? Do I know how lucky I am to have his affections? Axel doesn’t love me, and I’m stuck here forever.’
After Daxs childish grand exits, the only kind person I’ve yet to meet here comes down. Mary Wellen. She’s an elderly lady who remembers me from my childhood years here. She’s an Omega like I was, and is directed to bring me dinner each evening. Two stale slices of wheat bread, half a carrot, and a quarter cup of water is what I’m expected to live on.
“Knock Knock girly" her raspy voice sounds, before she comes into sight. “What’s cooking good looking?” I ask, attempting some humor to distract me of my sorrow. She knows what I’m doing , and offers a sympathetic smile “same as last night, and the night before I’m afraid.” I accept the plate from under the barred door. “Ah, my favorite" I joke.
Mary usually sits down here as I eat, just offering up her company. Grateful as I am to her for it, I’m worried she’ll face repercussions. “Mary? Do you think he’s ever going to let me go, or am I honestly destined to end up his mate and be stuck here forever?”
She appraised me with a mischievous look in her eye, and spoke so low it was hard to hear… “ He’ll never let you go dear you must know that already. But I think you knew that the first time too, and it never stopped you did it? You should accept his offer. It might just be what gets you out of here.” She indicated to the cell with her hands, but then looked up at the latch door and winked.
(Daxs POV)
This is it. The last chance I give to her. It saddens me to have her done in. I would’ve been a good mate for her. Decisive, protective , ensuring she expresses herself as a proper woman of royalty. I’ll ask her one more time, then she’ll die an Omega. Shame.
I crept down into the bunker, the smell of her waste, and unbathed body slightly burning the inside of my nose. The one thing dad failed on with this place was a method of ventilation. Ugh.
I stood before her, my shoulders squared and my eyes stern. Skipping any side topics I barreled ahead with it. “Ivy Olsen Omega of Blood Lake pack…” I think she winced “…do you accept me Dax Forrester Alpha of Blood Lake pack as your mate for now until the moon goddess decides our fate?.”
It was my turn to wince as I knew the final nail was about to be thrust in her coffin. I watched her stand, her eyes hard and unwavering as she said…
“I, Ivy Olson Omega of Blood Lake pack, do solemnly accept you Dax Forrester, Alpha of Blood Lake pack as my mate for now until the moon goddess decides our fate.”
What the…holy s**t.
(Ivys POV)
The words burned my tongue like acid , but I said them with as much conviction as I could. The second the words were out I had to stop myself from doubling over, and vomiting in pain. I knew this wasn’t real, but saying the words shifted something in me and I felt my bond to Axel fracture like a living thing.
Dax stared at me in bewilderment. “Why did you do that…accept me I mean?” he questioned suspiciously.
I had to go with the only way to this man’s trust, his ego. “You’re persistent insistence for my hand, has had an effect on me I did not know was possible. You’re a strong, and unmoving Alpha. Not one to accept rejection and move on. It’s that harsh persistence that has moved both my heart and my body towards yours.”
He studied my face intently, but after a moment seemed pleased. “I knew you would come to your senses. Only a fool would be unwise enough to reject an Alpha like me. Come now, let us get you cleaned. I will have you in my bed this evening.”
Not if I can help it…
(Lycans POV)
We were just on the outskirts of the Blood Lake territory , when something significant alerted my senses. I bristled in anger whipping around to look behind us. Axel whined in question, but my wolf ignored him.
I trotted back about forty paces my tail swishing in agitation. I quickly shifted back to my human form, not bothering to cover myself.
“ILYDA. What the f**k do you think you’re doing?!”
Peeking up from behind a mulberry bush her guilty grey eyes found mine. “Oh…hi sweetheart, funny running into you I was just-..” I cut her off “You were just ignoring what I said earlier, and taking it upon yourself to trail the Alpha and I!” Before either of us could say another word a loud growl sounded behind us.
“Seriously guys?! We don’t have time for this s**t!” Axel stood in the nude glaring at us, hands covering his frank and beans. “He’s right, we gotta move, go home Ilyda, please.” I begged. She glared at me, shifted swiftly into her velvety red wolf, and sauntered past me to stand next to Axel. “Hell no-!” I began, but was quickly pinned down by the deep timbre of Axels Alpha voice “LYCAN. I don’t have time for you two to fight right now, she comes with us. If s**t goes south, you pull out and go with her to safety. END OF DISCUSSION. Now let’s move out.”
(Axels POV)
I know Lyc is worried about Ilyda, but the woman is tougher than half the men in our pack. If there ever was to be a female warrior in our ranks, it’d be her hands down.
TEN MINUTES LATER
We had just come up to the perimeter line, and could see the busy ramblings of folk within the village. My eyes darted around desperately searching for any sign of Ivy, while my snout inhaled deeply from every direction.
Suddenly I saw that greasy f**k Dax, walking back from the lake. Behind him trailed a blonde haired Omega, she had a similar build to Ivy but was maybe fifteen pounds underweight, I couldn’t see her face through the wall of knotted hair that shielded it. My heart broke for the girl. To think that’s what my Ivy went through once upon a time.
Dax put his hand upon the girls ass and squeezed, he grabbed a fistful of her messy hair, her hand trailing down his chest lustfully as he pulled her closer toward himself. He spoke words to her I couldn’t make out. And then she turned…
My heart sunk to my knees, and I could barely see the scene before me as my wolf eyes had sprung thick masses of tears. Deep growls sounded from Lycan, and Ilydas wolf was whimpering in betrayal. I searched within my self, and for the first time since we arrived here realized I could no longer feel our bond. She wasn’t missing, she had just rejected me for Dax…
I had seen enough. I whipped around, and raced back towards Silver Falls, my heart hammering uncontrollably. I couldn’t hear my friends chasing me, all I could hear was my tortured howls as I ran further, and further away from myself.
