Chapter TenAgnes awoke and glanced at the clock. She was just about to reach across to wake Alan, when she saw that his side of the bed was empty. She raised herself up and looked around the room, expecting to see him making coffee. But then flopped back down onto the bed, when she recalled he had spent the night in his own home. Alan still owned a semi-detached house in a quiet part of Heaton, a short distance from the city centre. He had planned to put it on the market, when they had talked of buying something together.
