“After speaking to Janet Cunningham's parents and also to one of her closest friends, Pauline Mintoff, I'm afraid we were unable to learn anything helpful,” he told them.
Though Pauline had been at home when he and Sergeant Andrews called, the interview had been fruitless. After giving her some time to get over the shock of hearing the news about her friend, they had asked a few questions about Janet's boyfriends. However, she hadn't been able to give them the information they had hoped for.
“We didn't talk about boyfriends,” Pauline had told them. “Yes, we'd say if we were asked out on a date. But we'd never go into details about who the guy was, or where we were going.”
