Chapter 9: A Flicker of Danger

I blinked in surprise as Zane’s hand tightened around mine. My brow furrowed as I tried to make sense of my surroundings. Everything felt unfamiliar.
I’m back… but what does she mean by that? Zane and I are linked?
“What’s going on with you? You look like a snake bit you!” Diomedes said, his voice filled with concern.
I stared at him, still trying to process. “H-How long was I out?”
“Thirty seconds,” Zane replied nonchalantly. “Can you let go of my hand now?”
I glanced down at our interlocked fingers, then awkwardly released his hand. I couldn’t quite shake the feeling of the conversation I had with his mother.
Thirty seconds? How is that even possible?
