"She's still asleep," I whispered, my voice low and barely audible in the dimness of the hospital room. Jaxon stood by the window. His broad shoulders were tensed as he stared out into the dark city beyond. His hands were shoved deep into his pockets, but I could see the way they clenched and unclenched. The same helplessness that was drowning me was wrapped around him too. "At least she's breathing better now," he muttered to himself more than me.
