With all three of his passengers now taking the U-boat, Spindler prepared the Libau, now under its third identity change. He made a final check that everything was safely stowed, including the suitcase the Irish had given him, and then set sail into the Atlantic. The Irish Revolution had formerly begun.
Hidden under its new name, the SS Aud sailed high into the polar North Atlantic. After about a week, Spindler turned the vessel south, intending to travel past the west coast of Ireland until he cleared the UK entirely; he would then turn north and arrive along the southern coast of the island.
