I was sitting on my couch browsing TV when my phone rang. I knew Alec was calling me so I picked up the phone.
"Hey" I answered
"Hey babe. Things are a little troublesome right now. I won't be able to bring dinner. Don't wait up okay?" I was a little disappointed but it would give me time to think.
"Okay" I said.
"I'll call you again later" he said before hanging up. I sighed and went back to skipping channels. I remember all the nights my mom had to be alibis or when she had to get rid of bloody clothes. I saw her cry when she didn’t think anyone was watching. I also saw her forgive my dad when some rival gangs vandalized her car. I also remember she never had the option to leave my dad when he cheated because she never completed her high school education.
