The rest of the journey back to Achravie was uneventful. They stopped for lunch at Norton Canes Services on the M6. Using the toll section of the motorway saved some time, keeping them away from the Birmingham area and they eventually reached the ferry terminal at Ardrossan with time to spare Mackie parked the truck close to the terminal and they went in search of the fish suppers they had discussed on the way. They sat on a bench beside the truck, overlooking the Firth of Clyde and ate them, before boarding the ferry at the allotted time. It seemed as if they had just driven on to the ferry when it was time to drive off and they were driving across Arran to Blackwaterfoot. They caught the last ferry to Achravie, arriving back at Hillcrest House just before nine o’clock that evening. Alt
