TWENTY-NINE The knock at the door came two hours later. Vivian opened it to find Detectives Bassett and Chen standing there. Their faces were set and they didn’t look happy. “Hi…” Vivian said, surprised to see them. Bassett stepped forward and took Vivian by the shoulder, then spun her around and slapped a pair of cuffs on her. “Hey, wait a minute, what’s going on?” Vivian said, feeling the panic well up inside. “Vivian Voss, you’re under arrest for interfering with police business,” Chen said. “You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to speak to an attorney, and to have an attorney present during questioning. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you. Do you understand?” “What?
