Freddie had not expected Vivian to reach out to him. That had come as a complete surprise. He was convinced she would never agree to an interview, which meant he would never get the story, and as a result he would be pressured to take a buyout and leave the paper. But that was the last thing he wanted to do. He would leave on his own terms when the time came, not because he was being shown the door. But Vivian had made sure that wasn’t going to happen anytime soon. He knew he was taking a chance with her. She was playing detective in her imagination, but this was real life and real murder.
