"Oh no, you can't be serious! You've added a bag of beetroot to your cart?" My friend c*m manager Anie exclaims, making a retching noise and doubling over as if she's about to puke.
I chuckle and casually reach for the spinach. "Well, yeah, I did. Unlike you Anie, my dear friend, I actually enjoy leafy greens."
Anie, is my friend and manager, but she is the queen of junk food. Just a peek at her cart and I feel like gagging. Frozen pizza, Coke, Doritos, Ferrero Rocher chocolates, Tate's Bake Shop cookies, Tim Hortons donuts – it's a calorie overload with zero nutrition.
"Ew," I sigh in disgust.
Anie's back straightens, and she looks absolutely horrified when she spots the Spinach crown in my hand. "No way! Not Spinach, please! Ahh!"
A guy in his forties, shopping late at night and checking out bananas, turns to us, a smirk forming on his lips as he watches Anie's little performance.
"Seriously, quit it Anie, my friend. If I eat the stuff you do, I'll be flopping around like a beached whale during the performance."
My friend Anie smirks and adds, "C'mon, your body's great, no worries for you."
Jokingly, I comment, "You become what you munch on, while reaching for some broccoli. I'm a fan of veggies, though I indulge in steak like others. But all the sugary treats in your cart my friend Anie!! Not my thing."

"Haha, I totally relate," Anie, my friend gives a friendly snarl, and we burst into laughter. Anie's got more energy than a rocket, probably because of her sugar intake. She's small but fierce, and she eats like a horse without gaining weight. As for me, maintaining my curves means regular workouts and a healthy diet.
With a smile still on my face, I look at my cart. I decide to put a red bell pepper, an orange cabbage, and a small box of cherry tomatoes in it.
My friend Anie's eyes do a little eye roll. "Vegetables, seriously? You're not enjoying all the delicious stuff, girl."
"No wonder I don't shop groceries with you Anie," I say under my breath, teasing a bit. "Why did you come along this time, anyway?"
Anie lets out a snort. "Well, to annoy you, obviously. It's a tough job, but someone's gotta do it."
Right now, the man in the banana aisle is staring at me like he's trying to figure out if he knows me.
"Oh man, let's hustle Anie," I whisper. I chose to shop at this late hour for a good reason – to steer clear of the crowds and not get spotted by fans and paparazzi.

My friend and manager Anie's face turned all serious, and we're racing through our shopping, making a beeline for the front to pay up.
Anie's more than just my buddy; she's also the one who keeps my career on track. Back when I hit the big time five years ago, I brought Anie on board as my manager, and she's been there through all the ups and downs, never backing down. It's been a bumpy ride, you know? Fame isn't all it's hyped up to be. Without her, I wouldn't be where I am now.
The guy who was over by the bananas just popped up behind us at the checkout, and he's busy on his phone, making me even more curious.
"Dialing up the paparazzi?" I whisper in my head.
I lower my sporty cap's brim and fish out my phone out of my purse.
My bodyguard c*m driver Gusto answers right away. "Are you in a jam, Ms. Hathway?"
No matter how many times I've already said it to Gusto, he doesn't change. He's been doing double duty for me, as my driver and bodyguard, for four years since I came to the city. But he's still set on calling me "Ms. Hathway."
I say to Gusto "It hasn't happened yet, but I think someone might've recognized me. We're in line at the checkout." I deliberately had Gusto stay in the car when I went shopping 'cause his ex-military presence tends to turn heads.
