Lavelle woke up when she heard the ancient clock bell in the middle of the luxurious royal garden. Lavelle realized that it was almost five in the morning, then she glanced at Daniela who was still sleeping like a baby next to her. She was stunned when she wanted to cough, her throat felt so dry that even the smell of wine that still lingered on her body seemed to make her nausea begin to recur. She really felt like throwing out all of her guts that morning. However, she quickly grabbed a glass of mineral water on the table and drank it down to half.
A few moments later, Lavelle chose to get out of bed and walked to the large window in their room. Then, clearly seeing the stars scattered around the moon that night, she looked across the room hoping Theophile would wake up too, but she didn't see the curtains in the opposite room open and the lights in the room seemed to be out.
Lavelle became uneasy because she saw the lights in Theophile's room go out. In her mind, she wondered a little where the man named Theophile was. A second later, she was startled when a soft punch landed on her right shoulder. Daniela woke up either to the sound of Lavelle's footsteps or something else.
“Why did you suddenly wake up? And look into Theophile's window?” asked Daniela while scratching her red hair.
“I was a little surprised when I heard the ancient clock chiming, it was going to be five in the morning,” Lavelle replied casually.
“Geez, I thought you woke up at three in the morning just to steal a glance into Theophile's room. Or maybe you're thinking about breaking into Theophile's room?” Daniela teased Lavelle with a crooked smile that was so annoying to Lavelle.
“Explain to me, was there something important that made me do that stupid thing? Then why did you wake up? Do you want to break into Mark's room and steal his watermelon?” asked Lavelle in annoyance.
“Oops! I'm just guessing, honey. I woke up because I wanted to unplug my phone which was still charging. Last night you were really crazy. You even finished three bottles of wine and one bottle of champagne.” Daniela complained, then took her cellphone from the nightstand and again dropped her body onto the mattress that was so wide and soft.
Lavelle was surprised, then quickly turned to Daniela who had been lying on the luxurious bed. “What did you say earlier?”
“You're crazy,” Daniela replied.
“I'm serious, did I say something bad while unconscious? Why didn't you slap me to wake me up?” Lavelle's face now looked like that of a poor girl who was asking her best friend for reassurance.
“You kissed Theophile like that—”
“Are you serious?!” Lavelle shrieked in surprise. Her cheeks were completely red now.
“Oh my gosh, no. I was just lying.” Daniela gave a small smile.
“Why don't you slap me so I can wake up?” Lavelle repeated with some regret. “Getting drunk in front of people I've just met is such a shame, what if I accidentally utter some obscene words?”
“Do you think my life would go well if Theophile saw me slapping you? Theophile is a stupid vampire who is very possessive. He could keep me in prison for a century if I hurt you,” Daniela said in an exasperated tone.
“And the thing you need to know is when that happens, I will never allow him to receive any love back from me. Because you are my best friend as well as my sister,” Lavelle replied.
“That's ridiculous, and by the way, Theophile is going to a big meeting tomorrow. Maybe it's just the two of us in this kingdom with a few maids and their soldiers,” Daniela said as she remembered Theophile's message.
"Where do they go?" asked Lavelle then.
“I don't know, maybe they'll pin something somewhere we shouldn't know. However, if you think about it, isn't that a little weird? Theophile loves you almost like an addiction… but, why didn't she invite you to the meeting.” Daniela shrugged her shoulders.
“Please don't tell makeup stories like that, Daniela. I seriously asked you about that.” Lavelle pressed Daniela. “Maybe because we are humans.”
“Um … I'm no less serious than you, Mrs. Blanc.” Daniela rolled her eyes a little lazy and put her phone back on the nightstand. “Don't you want to go home? Your mom has called my number almost a thousand times, and it makes me a little uncomfortable to keep ignoring her.”
Lavelle seemed a little confused to answer Daniela's question because she really missed her mom and Liza who would always be waiting for her at home worriedly, but she still didn't have the braveries to ignore the pain of Martian's toxic words again — namely the man and biological dad she hated the most in her life and this world.
Just remembering her name, her head was really spinning as if she had been hit with a baseball bat and slapped with a golf club. In reality, the wound she was treating had not completely healed. Lavelle still vividly kept the recording of the persecution in tiny bits of memory that couldn't get out of the big cubic cage in her mind.
“I'm still comfortable on vacation here, I don't have to worry about money or anything,” Lavelle replied with a shrug.
“Do you really not miss your mommy? I really felt guilty when your mom called, and I couldn't answer. Next time try to call her to let her know that you are fine,” Daniela scolded Lavelle.
“I don't think so actually, I really miss them. But you can clearly see why I didn't contact them on purpose. I really like living in such a magnificent place as a queen but, I would be happier if I lived with the people I care about. I just want to stay here for a while, and try to recover like you always tell me,” Lavelle explained.

Bang!
A man with an athletic body slammed onto the asphalt, fresh blood gushing from his mouth quite profusely, the sound of bone cracking loud enough to be heard. Some of the youths seemed so brutally beat him, even looked very satisfied when they realized the man with an athletic build had fractures in his shin and right arm.
The young man still wanted to beat the athletic man but, applause made them immediately run to find where the voice was coming from. With brisk steps, the three men in their late twenties sprinted through the shabby alleys that are now gambling venues.
“Good job, I am quite satisfied when you guys do that. However, I was even more satisfied when you left that man halfway while enduring the pain.”
“But, Grand Master, wouldn't it be better if we killed him immediately and erased the traces left behind?” asked one of the three young men.
“No, that's more than enough. With this, the grim reaper can take the life of that bastard man with his own hands without you guys sending him to hell," replied the mysterious man.
“Very well, Grand Master. So, how about our deal a few hours ago, huh?” asked the young man again.
The mysterious man nodded slowly then took a velvet pouch out of his red coat which gleamed so much in the sleepy glow of the five-watt fluorescent lamp in the shabby hallways. A velvet pouch with an embroidered crest that no one recognizes.
“There are three rare gems in here which are very expensive if you sell them to a specialty jeweler, so in this check, I give you three hundred million dollars for your work.”
“Sorry…”
“Three hundred million dollars is too small for such a difficult job.”
After giving him a velvet pouch and a cash check, the mysterious man immediately left and disappeared from the sight of the three young men, who were still shocked by the money in front of them. The mysterious man was nowhere to be seen even as the three youths turned their heads several times to thank him.
