It was the devil himself! Mr. Hale For a second, I froze. My heart dropped into my stomach, and I was sure I looked like a deer caught in headlights. Meanwhile, he just stood there, dressed in one of his impeccable suits, looking like he had stepped straight out of a luxury magazine. Except his face wasn’t its usual smug, unreadable mask. No, first there was shock. Then confusion. And then—wait for it—concern. “Are you okay?” he asked, his voice softer than I expected, which only made things worse.
