SABASTINE HALE ~ I sat behind my massive oak desk, staring at a spreadsheet I had been trying to review for the past hour. The numbers blurred together, my focus shot to hell. With an irritated sigh, I pulled off my glasses and tossed them onto the desk. Why would she say no? I leaned back in my chair, rubbing my temples. By all logical accounts, Isabella’s rejection made no sense. It was a mutually beneficial arrangement, one that would solve her financial problems and rid me of my grandfather’s relentless matchmaking schemes. Who wouldn’t want that? “Everyone wants that kind of life,” I muttered under my breath. Wealth, security, a name that opened doors. It was everything people worked for their entire lives, and I had offered it to her on a silver platter. Yet she refused.
