I can’t believe what I’m seeing. Ben is lying flat as a board, floating mid-air, and sleeping like Sleeping Beauty. His girlfriend, Brooke, is sitting in a highback chair beside the hospital bed, eyes wide open and glowing white. Hunter and I can see the light from Brooke’s eyes connected to Ben’s chest. We can because we’re Dragons, but the Lycans cannot see the same thing. They all seem pis.sed off about this, but tough shi.t.
Brooke is clearly protecting Ben, but I have no idea why. Ben is with family; no one here would ever hurt him. But Brooke evidently thinks differently.
Blaze’s fingers wrap tighter around mine. I look at him, looking at his baby brother, and my heart hurts. Blaze is trying so hard to be strong, but I know he’ll break once we’re alone. I’ll be there to hold
