The Luna He Could Not Forget

Sophia POV “I can’t believe that I am Alpha Adrian’s mate now.” The words echoed repeatedly inside my mind as I sat before the large silver mirror in the royal chamber. My fingers moved slowly across my neck, tracing the expensive moonstone necklace Alpha Adria himself had given me earlier that morning. A smile spread across my face. The room around me looked luxurious beyond imagination. Golden curtains hung beautifully beside the tall windows while candles flickered softly against the walls. Everything in this room belonged to the Luna of the pack. And now… It belonged to me. The position Ava had once occupied was finally mine. For years, I had watched her sit proudly beside Adria during pack gatherings while everyone praised her beauty and kindness. I had watched servants bow respectfully to her while she acted like she deserved every bit of attention she received. Meanwhile, I remained in her shadow. But not anymore. “You have finally taken over your sister’s position. That serves her right.” My mother’s voice pulled me away from my thoughts. I turned slightly and saw Joyce standing near the door with satisfaction written all over her face. “She always behaved as though the world revolved around her,” my mother continued bitterly. “Wherever she is right now, she must understand that a poor orphan like her was never worthy of becoming a Luna. The Moon Goddess would never bless someone like her with an Alpha.” The smile on my face deepened slowly. Honestly, I had not known the truth about Ava until recently. For twenty-three years, I believed she was my real sister. Then my mother revealed everything. Ava was nothing but an orphan they had picked up years ago. An outsider. A cursed girl. And despite everything, Adrian had still chosen her over me. That alone had fueled my hatred for years. “Sophia.” My father’s voice suddenly interrupted the silence. I looked up immediately and found him staring at me with serious eyes. Aiden rarely joked about important matters. “We all believe that the child you are carrying belongs to Alpha Adrian,” he said slowly. “But if we discover you lied to us… if that child is not his… then do not expect me to save you when the truth comes out. I will personally watch you get expelled from this pack.” For a brief moment, my heartbeat skipped. But I quickly composed myself. “Father,” I said softly while lowering my eyes. “I may have lived a rough life before now. I may not look worthy enough to become the Luna of this pack. But that does not make me a liar.” I placed a hand carefully over my stomach. “I have changed. I am carrying Alpha Adrian’s child. That alone should prove that I am speaking the truth.” My father remained silent. He seemed convinced enough. The moment he turned away slightly, my mother and I exchanged a secret glance. Only both of us knew the truth. The child growing inside me did not belong to Alpha Adria. It belonged to a rogue I had secretly met months ago outside the territory. If Adrian ever discovered the truth… Everything would collapse instantly. But he would never know. Never. A slow smile crept across my lips as I imagined how perfectly we had deceived everyone. The entire pack. Every single one of them believed me. And Ava… She was gone. Completely gone. After spending some time with my parents, I returned to the Alpha mansion shortly before nightfall. The moment I stepped inside the grand entrance, I saw Adrian standing near the doorway waiting for me. His dark eyes softened immediately when he saw me. “You always make me happy whenever I see you,” he said quietly. I forced a sweet smile onto my face before walking closer to him. “You have become my source of happiness too, Alpha Adrian,” I replied gently. “You are amazing.” He stared at me for several seconds before pulling me into his arms. At first glance, everything looked perfect. But then… I noticed it. Something was wrong. His wolf. I could feel it. There was tension hidden inside his body. His embrace lacked warmth. Even his breathing seemed slightly uneven. “I’m disturbed,” Adrian admitted after a moment. I slowly looked up at him. “What do you mean?” He sighed heavily. “My wolf has been restless since Ava disappeared. I don’t understand it.” His jaw tightened. “Even if she was never worthy enough to remain Luna… her presence always calmed my wolf somehow.” The moment he mentioned Ava, irritation burned inside me instantly. Even now… Even after rejecting her… He still could not completely let her go. I stepped closer and gently placed my hands against his chest. “Do you still love my sister?” I asked quietly. His eyes narrowed immediately. “You love a barren she-wolf who could not even give you an heir after years together,” I continued carefully. “You think someone like her could truly satisfy your wolf?” Adrian’s expression darkened instantly. “Sophia,” he warned. “She was wolfless,” I whispered again. “The pack mocked her constantly because she could not awaken her wolf. Everyone knew she was unworthy of standing beside an Alpha.” “Enough!” His sudden shout echoed across the room. I flinched immediately. “Do not speak about your sister like that in front of me,” Adrian growled angrily. “If anyone wronged Ava, then I am the one responsible.” His words shocked me deeply. Just days ago, he had rejected her publicly. Now he sounded defensive. Guilty and conflicted. “I cannot take her back,” he continued more quietly. “She simply did not fit the position of Luna. But that does not give you the right to insult her.” I remained silent briefly while studying his face carefully. Then slowly… I decided to manipulate him further. “You don’t know the truth about Ava,” I whispered. Adrian frowned instantly. “What truth?” I pretended to hesitate before speaking again. “She was never truly my biological sister.” The room suddenly became silent. Adrian stared at me in confusion. “What are you talking about?” “My mother told me everything recently,” I continued softly. “Ava belonged to another pack before she was brought into ours. She was supposedly cursed from birth.” Adrian’s expression changed immediately. “A curse?” I nodded slowly. “She was meant to be killed because of it. But my mother saved her and raised her like her own child.” His face slowly lost color. “The curse affected her bloodline,” I added carefully. “That is why her wolf never awakened. That is why she could never conceive a child.” Adrian sat down heavily on the nearby chair. For the first time since I arrived, he truly looked shaken. “She’s… not your real sister?” he asked again quietly. I lowered my head sadly. “No.” In truth, my parents had treated Ava better than me for years. Until jealousy poisoned everything. Especially after Adrian chose her as Luna. That was when my mother began treating her differently. And honestly… I enjoyed watching Ava slowly lose everything. A knock suddenly interrupted the silence. “Come in,” Adrian ordered coldly. The door opened immediately. Harrison, the Beta of the pack, stepped inside looking exhausted. “Alpha,” he said respectfully. “We still cannot find Ava. We searched the entire territory. None of the guards have seen her.” I watched Adria carefully. Pain flashed briefly across his face before disappearing again. For several seconds, he remained completely silent. Then finally— “Stop the search,” he ordered quietly. Harrison looked surprised. “Alpha?” “Tell the guards to return to their posts. No more searching for Ava.” My heart filled with satisfaction instantly. Finally. It was over. Ava was truly gone now. Harrison bowed slightly before leaving the room. The moment the door closed, Adrian stood slowly from his seat and walked toward me again. His expression looked unreadable. “I chose you over every other she-wolf in this pack,” he said quietly. “I made you my Luna because I believed you could give this pack a future.” I smiled softly. “And I will never disappoint you.” He touched my cheek gently. Even as at that his wolf was struggling. Even while holding me close, Adrian looked distracted. Disconnected. Almost uncomfortable. His hands remained on my waist, but there was hesitation hidden in every movement. Like his wolf refused to fully accept me. Still… He pretended everything was fine. He leaned closer slowly until his forehead rested against mine. “I want tonight to be peaceful,” he whispered. His voice sounded tired. Emotionally exhausted. I wrapped my arms around his neck gently while forcing another smile. “Then let me make you forget every worry.” For a brief second, his wolf reacted violently inside him. I saw it clearly in his eyes. A flicker of pain. Longing and confusion. As though another woman’s scent still haunted him. As though his wolf desperately searched for someone else. Ava. Even after everything… His wolf still wanted Ava. But Adrian quickly buried the feeling deep inside himself. His fingers tightened around my waist as he forced himself to focus on me instead. And slowly… He led me toward the bedroom.
