Liam stood at the front of a wide lengthy door leading into the dinning room. He was hesitating to go in as he hates to see the familiar faces that were sitted behind the closed door. He knew the only reason his father would call him to the mansion was to make certain announcements about Dante just like he always does and the call had been from Diana, his father never made a phone call to him. It infuriated him to be there but he doesn’t want to get on his father’s bad side, yet.
He pushes the door in and walks inside. Just like he thought, his stepmother, Matlyn looks up at him in disdain, his stepsister, Diana kept the look of indifference on while his father didn’t bother acknowledging his presence and continues to eat.
“Good morning father, Matlyn…Diana” She greeted them while a faked warm smile spread on his lips. He wasn’t upset when nobody responded because he had gotten used to it. He takes a sit on one of the empty seats. He wasn’t interested in the meal but forced himself to take a bite. Soon enough, they heard the door open and all attentions diverted to who it was.
It was now Liam’s turn to scoff when he sees Dante walking closer to a seat.
“Good morning father” Dante said with a deep set voice. The only person worthy of his greeting was his father, not that he was worthy but it was because Dante had grown to fear him. Dante’s eyes landed on Liam’s who flashed him a smile. Dante knew it was all pretense but Liam doesn’t hide it from him, he only hid it in front of their father.
“What took you so long to be here” Lincoln, their father said while still gazing at the plate with his brows furrowed.
“I’m sorry father, I was stucked in traffic” Dante said coolly. He knew something about him had upsetted his father to make him call for everyone to be in for breakfast the early morning.
“How about your marriage, what’s your reason for taking long to get ready for the wedding” Lincoln said. Just like Liam and Dante predicted, it has always been about him. Liam thought his father was just obsessed with favoritism but Dante knew his father enough to know it was all because of his skills in handling the company and the fact of his legitimacy unlike Liam, those were the fact Liam doesn’t accept.
“I will do that father, I just needed a little time to keep the company running” Dante said. The meals he usually had with his family was always about ordering him and most of it ends in him not taking any bite out of the food. The conversation was what his father only cared about.
“That is not an excuse, get married to her right away” Lincoln ordered and Dante couldn’t say a word. He had his fist clenched under the table while his face was calm. He was boiling inside but couldn’t stand up for himself. Liam smiled at how helpless Dante looked, if he were the one to be in Dante’s position, he would never take orders from anyone including their father and he sees Dante as foolish to be their father’s puppet.
Just then, the door opens and Ava in all her grace walks in with a lovely smile plastered on her lips. She look’s sophisticating with how exquisite her choice of outfit looked. This made a smile form on Matlyn’s lips as she was a fan of fashion which had made her considered Ava to be the best choice for her son.
“Good morning Mr Anderson, Mrs Anderson” Ava greeted and glances at Dante.
“Morning Ava, you look lovely” Matlyn said while gazing at the clothes on Ava’s body rather than Ava herself. The only thoughts she was having is asking Ava where she had gotten the dress from.
Lincoln wasn’t a friendly type, Dante could count the times he had ever seen his father laugh since his childhood. Even though he liked the presence of Ava because he had been her godfather, he never acknowledges anyone’s presence easily.
Ava had chosen a seat beside Dante, opposite of where Liam sat. The only reason Liam had always stared at her was the fact that he wanted her. Not because he loved her, but because he was sexually attracted to her. He had a cocky smile on as she stares both at Dante and Ava who kept her gaze on Dante.
“Why aren’t you talking him into the marriage, at least you of all people should know how much time had passed since you engaged” Lincoln said to Ava. Ava, trying to be the one to save Dante, her dude in distress brought up her dissembling acts.
“He had actually brought it up but I had been the one who asked him for more time” Ava lied and everyone except Lincoln and Matlyn knew it was a lie.
“And what might be the reason” Lincoln questions and Ava thought of what else she could say.
“Hmm…. It’s personal” she awkwardly said and smiles sheepishly. Lincoln said nothing and continue to devour his meal. Though Dante doesn’t like Ava’s presence but he was grateful to her for covering up for him. He hadn’t taken a spoon out of the meal even though he was hungry. He thinks it was time for him to leave since his father was done ordering him so he got up and excused himself to leave. Ava quickly tag along with him since she sees it as an opportunity to have a little time to talk with Dante even though she knew she might not get to talk to him.
“Dante” Ava called when Dante was halfway outside the mansion. The only reason which made him stop was because he hated owing people anything and he will use his time to pay for the favor Ava did him earlier.
Ava quickly walks over to his front and shyly puts a strand of hair out of her face to put behind her ear.
“I called several times last night” Ava said while looking intently into Dante’s blue eyes.
“I was asleep” Dante simply replied without interest while his face was twisted in a frown.
“But you just got off work then” Ava said and quickly regrets it. She had been stalking him and knew his everyday routine. She knew she had been caught with Dante’s next expression.
“Great, good luck in stalking me more” Dante said with anger evident on his face while he walks away from her front and continue heading to the outside of the mansion.
“But….” Ava’s words caught in her throat when she sees he could probably not hear her anymore as he had almost gotten to the front of the door. She stayed still in her track as tears wailed in the corner of her honey brown eyes as she watches Dante leave.
Liam had seen their little drama and passed by Ava naturally but suddenly stopped, he turns to face her with a smile spread across her face.
“Tears doesn’t suit you princess, you are better off without him” Liam said and immediately turns back to continue making his way to the door also, while he had a smirk on. Ava stared at his retreating frame with her fists clenched, he had always been hitting at her which infuriates her. The only person she has eyes for is Dante and she would do anything to make him love her.
